Position Summary

Are you a skilled and dedicated electrician looking for an exciting opportunity? Look no further! We are seeking a talented individual to join our team as an Electrician!

As a vital part of our team, you\'ll report to the Electrical Supervisor dream team (Maintenance and Projects), alongside our Life Safety Systems Specialist. You will be part of the driving force behind installing, inspecting, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and equipment. You\'ll take charge of preventative, predictive, and diagnostic maintenance to keep our facility equipment in top-notch shape. Plus, you\'ll help craft maintenance plans to ensure our equipment runs smoothly. Your attention to detail will maximize system reliability and minimize campus disruptions. Collaboration is key as you work hand-in-hand with other skilled trades to provide essential electrical support for diverse projects.

What You\'ll Do:

  • Installation and Maintenance: Construct, install, and maintain a variety of electrical systems including alarms, motors, switches, conduit, fire alarm systems, and generators. Diagnose and repair malfunctioning systems using state-of-the-art equipment and tools.
  • High Voltage Expertise: Work with high voltage systems, including substations, loop feeders, switches, transformers, and essential systems. Repair and maintain 5,000 Volt motor control centers and related equipment.
  • Wiring and Networking: Install and test data network, communication, and Fiber Optic cabling. Perform underground cable tracking and locating. Stay updated on the latest technology trends in electrical networking.
  • Design and Innovation: Design and install indoor and outdoor electrical control, wiring, and lighting systems. Modify and upgrade existing systems to ensure optimal performance and energy efficiency.
  • Troubleshooting: Utilize your expertise to inspect and test electrical systems, diagnose issues, and implement effective solutions. Provide emergency power circuits to critical equipment and instruments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Operate a variety of precision hand and power tools, conduct tests with electric and electronic instruments, and assist in the design and setup of new control panels.
  • Compliance and Safety: Stay informed about revisions to the Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) and other relevant legislation, building, and safety regulations. Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with industry standards and safety protocols.

Position Requirements

What You\'ll Bring to the Position:
  • Successful completion of technical school training in the electrical trade;
  • Completion of certification requirements for an Inter-Provincial Journeyperson Electrician;
  • Minimum of five years experience as a Journeyperson in commercial, industrial, and/or service projects; and
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Driver\'s License.
Skills That Will Ensure You Succeed in this Role:
  • Demonstrated knowledge of safety and electrical codes;
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret drawings, schematics and specifications;
  • Demonstrated ability to visualize the arrangement, function and relationship of electrical wiring and equipment from drawings, diagrams and specifications;
  • Visual and perceptive ability to detect loose connections, broken cables, corrosion, defective insulation, or other defects;
  • Demonstrated ability and coordination to install and repair wiring, switch boxes, panel boards, meters or other accessories;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate in oral and written form and demonstrate the ability to convey clear and concise information;
  • Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions accurately and efficiently;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with staff;
  • Demonstrated ability and skill in the use and operation of the various tools, equipment and instruments used in the electrical trade;
  • Demonstrated skill in applying established safe-work regulations and procedure to work assignments;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in the use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook-GroupWise). Experience working with an equivalent database system may be considered;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to comply with WHMIS regulations; and
  • Attention to detail is essential.
Physical Demands
  • Physical activity is a primary part of the job. Requires the ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds. Work will be performed at heights, in crawl spaces, on rooftops and will include the use of ladders and powered mobile lifts.
  • Work involves exposure to unusual elements such as high voltage, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, chemicals, hazardous materials, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
  • Work environment may involve exposure to potentially hazardous material and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and will include the use of personal protective equipment.
Pay Grade CUPE Phase 5
Salary Range 57,066.88 to $77,044.24 Annually
Status Permanent
Work Hours

In general, the hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. Occasional call out is a part of this position. May be required to work overtime and weekends; may be required to work various shifts or required to be on-call.
