Job Description


Reporting to the Coordinator Infrastructure and Projects and working closely with the Assistant Director, the electrician\'s responsibilities include:

  • Carry out maintenance on all electrical wiring systems and devices, including airport-related facilities.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical wiring systems and devices.
  • Refurbish existing facilities or extend their operational lifespan by installing new electrical devices.
  • Verify malfunctioning equipment with testing devices, including ammeters and voltmeters.
  • Inspect electrical equipment including motors, generators and circuit breakers for faults, as well as
locate breakdowns and identify causes.
  • Install power and control cables.
  • Analyse, locate and resolve breakdowns with programmable controllers.
  • Repair and replace electrical, mechanical, air-powered and hydraulic parts.
  • Update existing drawings.
  • Participate in the start-up and implementation of electrical and mechanical projects.
  • Participate in the preparation and implementation of the preventive maintenance program and keep
appropriate records.
  • Inform his/her coordinator of all faults and equipment breakdowns, and make recommendations.
  • Comply with safety rules.
  • Plan workflow and comply with deadlines.
  • Perform any other duty or other related task requested by his/her supervisor.
  • Advise Transportation Department staff on various subjects related to electricity.
  • Take operational decisions in emergencies.
Knowledge:
  • Thorough knowledge of electricity and electronics theories, principles and practices as applied in
industrial and commercial settings.
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices and usage of test equipment such as oscilloscopes, cable fault
locators, voltmeters and ammeters.
  • Knowledge of alternating and direct current (AC and DC).
  • Knowledge of theories and principles of electrical production of emergency power by diesel
generator.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety principles.
The selected candidate must:
  • Possess a pertinent vocational or college studies diploma. Solid work experience will also be taken
into account.
  • Airport/airfield lighting systems experience is a definite asset.
  • Have a valid electrician\'s license (class C) and a valid driver\'s license.
  • Good communication and writing skills in at least two of the following languages: Inuktitut, English or
French;
  • Be prepared to travel throughout the 14 airports in Nunavik.
  • Work experience north of the 55th parallel is a definite asset.
Work schedule and place of work: the selected candidate will work on a rotation schedule of six weeks
work in the northern villages followed by three weeks paid leave (52.5 hours weekly) or four weeks work in the northern villages followed by two weeks paid leave;

Salary: Minimum $49 589 /year; maximum $84 336 /year (Class 8)
