Your Opportunity:This position reports to the Facility Manager at the Royal Alexandra Hospital working in the Facilities Maintenance & Engineering Department. The incumbent will perform a full range of journeyperson level duties associated with installing, maintaining, testing and repairing building electrical systems, control systems and equipment in accordance with blueprints, codes and established Alberta Health Services\' standards and practices. The incumbent must have strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose electrical system problems that need immediate response and repair for the campus. Interpreting diagrams, drawings, code publications and standards are a necessary skill. Must be able to manage record keeping tasks and make appropriate recommendations for continual improvement of electrical infrastructure. Working knowledge and very thorough understanding of complex electrical distribution systems is mandatory. Understanding of heliport fire suppression systems and regulations is required. This Electrician position will also assist the Electrical Lead Hand to manage complex electrical infrastructure upgrades and repairs as required. The primary location will be at the Royal Alexandra Hospital but if an event unfolds, this person may be asked to work at other sites within the zone. Potential multi-site duties as directed by FM&E Director or Manager.Description:As an Electrician you will work in accordance with the accepted codes, standards, regulations and procedures. Under minimal supervision, the electrician performs a variety of highly skilled electrical maintenance and repairs of a complex nature requiring use of schematics, blue prints and specialized test equipment.

Required Qualifications:Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Electrician Certificate with Red Seal from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training. Must hold a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator\'s Licence. Additional Required Qualifications:Grade 12 Diploma. A minimum of 5 years of previous related electrical experience in High Voltage (5kV & 13.8kV) distribution systems, complex switchgear operation and maintenance, familiarity with a variety of electrical systems and/or other institutional experience is required. Ability to troubleshoot and analyze electrical system and equipment problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be reliable, cooperative, and capable of working independently. Must be physically capable to carry out the duties of this position (i.e. walk for long periods of time, climb ladders, lift and move heavy material or equipment and respond quickly to building emergencies). Must have critical thinking skills and be able to diffuse and control problematic situations in a moment\'s notice. Must be able to work in a hospital environment and work around traumatic events that occur in a hospital setting. Additional experience in a large multi-building, multi-system public facility is essential. Preferred Qualifications:Health Care experience is considered an asset. Electrical Engineering Technologist at the NAIT/SAIT level is an asset. Power System Electrician Certificate is considered an asset.
