The
Grooming Specialist
is responsible for delivering high-quality grooming services in a safe, efficient, and compassionate manner. This position ensures pets receive styles appropriate to their breed, coat, and owner preferences while prioritizing humane handling and minimizing stress. The Grooming Specialist also oversees the work of Bather/Brushers, maintains a clean and organized grooming environment, and reports directly to the Grooming Supervisor.
Primary Responsibilities: Professional Grooming & Pet Handling
Perform grooming services in accordance with client instructions, grooming cards, and facility standards, ensuring high-quality finishing and styling.
Provide breed-appropriate, owner-requested trims and styles while ensuring pet comfort and safety.
Assess coat conditions and make professional recommendations to clients (e.g., shave-downs vs. dematting) to prioritize pet welfare.
Bathe dogs and cats as needed, following proper handling techniques and minimizing undue stress.
Bather/Brusher Oversight
Ensure Bather/Brushers properly prepare pets for grooming, following training and company procedures.
Provide guidance, support, and feedback to Bather/Brushers to maintain workflow and grooming standards.
Report any performance concerns or issues to the Grooming Supervisor promptly.
Client & Administrative Communication
Communicate with front desk staff regarding extra service charges such as extensive brush-outs, dematting, or special handling fees.
Update grooming status boards and POS system accurately.
Notify the Guest Services team promptly when "call when ready" pets are finished.
Workflow & Time Management
Manage grooming schedules to ensure pets are completed within expected timeframes.
Notify management or reception promptly if delays occur to maintain positive client communication.
Cleanliness & Safety
Maintain a clean and organized grooming area throughout the workday, including wiping spills, managing hair buildup, and cleaning tubs and stations.
Ensure cages, tools, grooming tables, and equipment are sanitized and ready for next-day use.
Practice all safety procedures for pets and staff and request assistance when handling difficult, stressed, or injured pets.
High school diploma or GED preferred.
Graduation from a professional grooming school (Preferred)
or
equivalent hands-on grooming experience.
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Proven ability to handle pets humanely and confidently.
Demonstrated dependability and strong work ethic.
Ability to work independently and maintain personal accountability.
Leadership skills and the ability to provide direction to Bather/Brushers.
Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills.
Flexibility and resilience in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.50-$21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 - 40 per week
