Position Overview

This position is responsible for providing disability and leave management services for medical accommodation requests - Workplace Safety Insurance Board (WSIB), Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) claims, Short-term Disability (STD) claims, and Long-term disability (LTD) claims with a focus on early and safe return to work for all programs across North America.
Responsibilities

  • Extended Absence and Disability Case Management
  • Assess, process and adjudicate occupational injury leave claims with WSIB/CNESST/WCB non-occupational injury leave claims (e.g. STD/LTD), personal leave. Investigate and elevate more sensitive matters to supervisor for guidance and support.
  • Day-to-Day contact with the corresponding worker compensation boards case managers, payment specialists, and return to work specialists. (WSIB, CNESST, WCB NL/NB/NS/PEI)
  • Design, offer and execute return to work programs for employees returning from occupational and non-occupational injury or illness.
  • Schedule and attend return to work meetings and hearings via phone or in person as required.
  • Manage personal extended leave of absence tracking and return to work activities.

Leaves - Workplace Injuries Management
  • Injury investigation: phone calls with employees and managers.
  • Reporting the accident to the appropriate provincial worker’s compensation board: (WSIB, CNESST, WCB NS, Work Safe NB, Workplace NL, WCB PEI)
  • Daily communication with those workers' compensation boards, employees, and managers to follow up on their files.

Job Requirements
  • 1 year administrative experience preferably in the HR field.
  • Post-Secondary education in Human Resources, Occupational Health, and Safety, designation preferred or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with workplace investigations, inspections, and job hazard analysis
  • Understanding of current provincial legislation, Codes of Practice, Bulletins, and other safe work practice requirements and recommendations.
  • Experience in writing and implementing specific work procedures and conducting customized training programs
  • Computer literacy in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to anticipate, recognize and respond to problem situations
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy skills and the ability to handle confidential matters with discretion
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, especially strong writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
  • This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds, occasional day and overnight travel to other offices (5%-10% travel).
