Andrew Peller Limited is looking for a strategic Marketing Director to join our team & drive growth across our premium-ultra premium VQA portfolio. Some of our leading brands nationally include Wayne Gretzky, Trius, Peller Estates, Sandhill, Black Hills & Tinhorn Creek.
Reporting into the Vice President, Corporate Development (VQA & DTC), the Director, VQA Marketing will be responsible for leading the cross-functional team to design, develop and deliver a portfolio of brands and products along with strategies to drive demand creation and achieve business performance objectives including sales, market share and profitability. The ideal candidate will influence across functions and all levels of management including executives within the organization. We are looking for a teammate with the following skills and experience:

  • A passion for the beverage alcohol industry, marketing and a desire to understand consumer needs.
  • 2 + years in a Director Marketing role, managing a team and a complex brand portfolio, including premium/ultra-premium brands.
  • 12+ years of progressive Marketing experience with 8+ years of experience in management role(s) within a top tiered alcohol/beverage or consumer goods environment.
  • Strong foundation in classically trained brand management, leadership profile that speaks to servant leadership and drive for results through "one team".
  • Marketing career experience within the spirits or wine/ alcohol beverage sector would be an asset.
  • Collaborative, creative and innovative marketer with demonstrated ability to lead cross functional teams.
  • Must constantly have a proactive, take charge, positive, action-oriented approach to spearhead development and implementation of multi-dimensional business building projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in a Business oriented field with a major in Marketing or a related business discipline. An MBA or relevant experience is required.
  • Working effectively with internal and external partners including creative agencies with the ability to influence across functions and all levels of Management through knowledge, critical thinking and excellent communication skills.
This teammate will be accountable for:
  • Developing long-term strategic plans where required and develops the annual and 5-year operating plans across all elements of the marketing mix in line with the company's strategic plan.
  • Portfolio management strategy and optimization across trade channels including pricing, product assortment, expansions, discontinuations, and mix management.
  • Leading innovation and new product development from ideation to commercialization. Drives activity management and project management from concept to launch to ensure excellence in execution across the broader organization and manufacturing network.
  • Building long term vibrant brands that identity together with revenue and margin growth for Andrew Peller Limited's brands.
  • Leading the brand marketing team, the Director of Marketing is responsible for leading a cross functional business team in delivering against key business metrics including supply chain, finance, operations, sales and trade marketing.
  • Ensuring demand forecast meets lead times and requirements needed to drive a balanced supply signal. Owning and Managing the marketing P & L. Accountable for Profit and loss and annual plan KPI delivery within an Integrated Business Plan (IBP) process environment.
  • Consumer and Business Insights by utilizing syndicated and independent research, market analysis, industry reading/exposure/experience, marketing, and industry conferences/symposiums to develop a deep understanding into the consumer, the category, the competition, and the brand to improve strategic and tactical decisions.
  • Marketing and Wine Thought Leadership. Possesses and/or develops strong knowledge of the industry and products. Stays abreast of the latest developments in terms of markets and products domestically, internationally and across the organization. Possesses and is able to coach others on knowledge of the APL product portfolio. Will be expected to complete WSET I, II, III to ensure superior wine knowledge.
  • Developing and prioritizing channel strategy for portfolio of Brands. Supports sales and trade marketing with strong insights, selling stories, and demand creation plans to build effective selling stories and drive and fuel channel specific growth.
  • Managing people by fostering a team of engaged and highly performing people, including development, coaching and overall performance and talent management of direct and indirect reports; championing a culture aligned to the vision and leadership imperatives.
  • Builds marketing organization capabilities and bench strength. A strong coach and mentor for direct and dotted line reports aligned to their professional development, including areas of opportunity.
