Job Description


Role Impact:

The Director of Security position guides the development and execution of strategic national security initiatives. The role influences behaviors of property management teams in CF\xe2\x80\x99s Eastern Portfolio through a combination of Audit, Compliance, Policy and Strategy mechanisms and provides advice and support to the respective Vice Presidents of Operations, General Managers and Security Managers. The incumbent will champion an innovative security environment that aligns with the standards set forth by Security Operations (SO) and ensure that the security program at Cadillac Fairview is a market differentiator.

What you will deliver:

  • Provide subject matter expertise on security and life safety operations and is the established authority on issues relating to security and life safety to both internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to: threat and risk assessments, security and life safety business practices and models, business proposal and recommendations, financial accountability, performance standards and continual improvement with respect to security and life safety-related technologies
  • Coordinate with Security Operations to prepare documents relating to regional security related contracts before final sign-off by the respective Vice President of Security Operations, Vice President Operations or Portfolio Managers
  • Ensure annual expenditures align with Security Operations\xe2\x80\x99 strategies, business models and technology standards and principles prior to final signoffs
  • Coordinate with Security Operations to develop and implement broad policies and procedures relating to security operations, security guard behaviors and other matters critical to the safe and secure management of assigned properties community environments
  • Coordinate with Security Operations to manage investigations related to security operations, and specific efforts in concert with internal stakeholders such as Internal Audit and Human Resources pursuant to policies, to effectively mitigate risks that impact the integrity and reputation of the corporation
  • Project leadership and scope-approval authority of larger-scale security and life safety projects, with an emphasis on continuous improvement and maximization of value
  • Prepare projections, within 10%, and costs to the properties relating to physical security and security technology for annual operational expenditures and 10-year capital plans
  • In consultation with the respective business leaders recommend the annual performance objectives for all security and life safety managers at assigned properties.
  • Oversee and execute the implementation of security strategy via regular and ongoing liaison with senior portfolio and property management to ensure a consistent level of service delivery and financial effectiveness
  • Develop and articulate best and emerging practices relating to security and life safety, and in alignment with corporate objectives
  • Conduct reviews of internal business processes in areas such as security operating practices e.g. use of force, emergency management, fire safety systems and procedures, health and safety and business continuity and make broadly applicable policy and procedural changes to close evident gaps, or where the incumbent leads opportunities for improvement in effectiveness or in terms of achieving longer range national objectives relating to security and life safety
Operations:
  • In partnership with the regional Vice President of Operations and General Managers, ensure the company\xe2\x80\x99s security management practices and operational procedures are adhered to; drive continual improvement and procedural enhancements; and drive culture change and behavioral results across the entire security portfolio
  • Ensure national standards and operating principles are strictly followed in the design, procurement, implementation, and execution of the company\xe2\x80\x99s security-related monitoring technologies e.g., CCTV, Enterprise Access Control, Duress Systems, and Visitor Management systems
  • Collectively make recommendations around decisions regarding larger, more complex projects
  • Establish and maintain liaison contacts with internal and external partners and stakeholders, including police and other international, federal and provincial public safety agencies, in order to advance the most appropriate practices and operational positions on behalf of the Company
  • Promote and model best practices in security and life safety that highlight ways in which security and life safety services optimize create value
Financial:
  • Knowledge of budgets, capital and operating expenses, and accruals.
  • Will provide oversight on contract security services; including but not limited to performance management; staffing optimization and contract enforcement.

What You Need to Succeed:
  • Completion of a university degree in any discipline
  • Must qualify for and achieve a Level II Government of Canada security clearance
  • A minimum of 10 years working in a commercial security/life safety environment, ideally in positions of increasing responsibility
  • A minimum of 5 years of security/life safety management experience, ideally at a property or properties of complex scope e.g., large, mixed-use facility
  • Professional security industry accreditation, such as CPP or PSP, is preferred
  • Completion of university degree in any discipline
  • Background in Collective Bargain Agreements is preferred
  • Knowledge of threat and risk assessment methods
  • Sound knowledge of security technology systems, including CCTV and Access Control
  • Knowledge and understanding of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal legislation, and significant court rulings pertaining to security/life safety management
  • Knowledge of industry-related techniques and emergent trends in security/life safety
  • Experience managing contracted security & life safety services
  • Financial proficiency including the development and management of capital and operational budgeting across a portfolio
