Position: Director, Rewards, Recognition, Culture and Communications


Job Overview:


As a member of the HR Leadership team, the Director of Rewards, Recognition, Culture and Communications is responsible for providing direction and leading-edge team member programs aligned to the Company strategy. This role requires innovative thinking, strong analytic decision-making skills and Genuine Inspired Leadership that help deliver on our business strategy.
Accountabilities:
Team Leadership and Development:

  • Ensures the appropriate team structure, processes and systems are in place to meet the needs of the organization, aligned to our strategy and achieving business results.
  • Directs a professional team including selection and orientation/on-boarding, training, performance management, career pathing succession planning and professional development.
  • Partners with the HR Directors/Managers in building out a best-in-class HR function that delivers a seamless team member experience through role modelling, coaching, guiding and mentoring.

Total Rewards Program design, development and implementation:
  • Develop a performance management and total rewards philosophy which align both the business strategy and team member experience delivering on business objectives and embracing our culture.
  • Develop and recommend organization-wide total reward programs (compensation, benefits, savings, wellness, Team Member discounts, etc), policies, processes that aligns rewards with results that support business objectives and drive an exceptional team member experience.
  • Develop Total Reward communication strategies to ensure a high level of education regarding our Total Reward offerings.
  • Responsible for new policy development, including the communication and implementation of strategies throughout the organization.
  • Chair the Total Rewards Committee and works with the Total Rewards Manager to prepare annual and ad hoc program recommendations ensuring alignment to both the philosophy and budget.

Recognition Program design, development and Implementation:
  • In partnership with SLT and other key stakeholders, build a culture of recognition through design, development and implementation of various recognition tactics and strategies aligned to our business strategy and culture
  • Build a strategic partnership and collaborates with our recognition vendor ensuring we utilize the platform to drive key business results.
  • Champion a culture of recognition and celebration by partnering and collaborating with leaders across the organization driving exceptional results.

Human Capital Management system and HR Master data:
  • Build a strategic partnership and collaborates with our HCM vendor to ensure optimal use of the system features and efficiencies for our Team Members based on an aligned roadmap.
  • Support the HR data and reporting requirements of the business to make sound strategic business decisions.
  • Partner with HCM Specialist and HCM provider on our road map to assess and launch new system capabilities and features to drive efficiency and data driven decision making throughout the organization.
  • Manage the contract negotiation process for the HCM system. Accountable to ensure proper budgeting and invoicing against our team member population.

Seamless Payroll processes and policy Implementation:
  • Oversee the Payroll team to ensure the smooth implementation of payroll processes and policies including auditing, year-end processes, and ongoing efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with the business and HCM/payroll teams to ensure the timely TM transactions, ensuring streamlined processes and effective use of system functionality.

Trusted HR Advisor to ESC, SLT and Store and Operations Managers:
  • Work in collaboration with Senior Leaders on the development and implementation of:
    • Compensation and Benefit initiatives
    • Recognition initiatives
    • Communication plans
    • Cultural initiatives
    • Business plan initiatives
    • Wellness programs aligned to our culture and business strategy
  • Provides counsel to Senior Leaders on various HR situations and initiatives.
  • Works in close partnership with the broader HR business partner team to support business initiatives and HR programs.


Communications that enable and showcase our strong culture:
  • Oversee the internal Communication function ensuring the delivery of an internal communications strategy focused on building team member engagement, fostering our unique culture, supporting change management and builds brand ambassadors.
  • This role guides the internal Communications function, ensuring consistent internal communications tools and processes that provide clear, informative and engaging messaging.

KPI’s , Reporting and Budgeting:
  • Determine Rewards, Recognition, Culture and Communication program KPI’s and reporting, forecasting and modelling to assess program costs and overall effectiveness.
  • Ensure regular Good Jobs Strategy Scorecard reporting to provide the business data for decision making.
  • Monitor, manage program and department costs-specifically-compensation, benefits-legislative, company, pension plan, recognition, culture and communications, payroll.
  • Develop business cases to achieve business goals and support Operations and SC initiatives.

External Partnerships:
  • Builds and manages strategic relationships with consultants, service providers and industry networks in developing Total Reward/Wellness strategies and Human Capital systems.
  • Build Relationships with key existing and new external vendors such as consultants and service providers and hold them accountable for their service performance.

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies:
  • Post Secondary Education-University Degree with CHRL designation.
  • CHRE, CEBS, CCP designations an asset.
  • 10-15 years of experience in Human Resource Management in progressively senior roles.
  • Inspirational leadership abilities combined with the ability to mentor, coach and develop others.
  • Strong HCM systems and computers skills including MS Word, PowerPoint, advanced Excel.
  • An unwavering commitment to best practices in culture and leadership.
  • Excellent organization, planning, forecasting and documentation skills.
  • Innovative problem solving and sound decision-making abilities.
  • Proven ability to oversee and manage strategic vendor/service provider relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including inspiring facilitation skills.
  • Strong knowledge of business controls, HR practices and legislation.
  • Comfortable operating in a digital environment and operates with a cross functional mindset.

Working Conditions:
  • Work is performed in an office environment with participation in meetings, teams and zoom calls etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and changing priorities with tight deadlines.
  • Travel to Stores and Business Units in the GTA will be required.
