Your Challenge

Help bring research to life and drive your career forward with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), Canada\'s largest research and technology organization.

Based in 5 locations across Canada, the Aerospace research center builds collaborative project teams from a diverse scientific and engineering workforce with particular strengths in structures, materials, manufacturing, aerodynamics, propulsion, gas turbines and flight research. Projects are conducted to meet the requirements of external clients, internal investment programs, or both.

Current areas of focus and technologies within the aerospace research centre include sustainable aviation, aerial mobility, product certification and development, manufacturing, air travel research, digitalization, atmospheric and icing research, and defense sustainment.

We are looking for a Director, Research and Development for the Aerospace Manufacturing Laboratory - the successful candidate would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

The Director, Research and Development for the aerospace manufacturing lab manages the capability embodied in assigned research centre resources, ensuring relevance, focus and utility by working with program leaders and external stakeholders, including clients. The Director supervises Team Leaders to achieve effective execution of project management and continuous professional development of staff. Through discharging these responsibilities, and through the provision of timely strategic advice, the Director, Research and Development provides the Director General with vital assurance of long-term research centre sustainability and risk management.

Education

Graduate degree in science, engineering or business from a recognized university. Preference may be given to candidates with a combination of science/engineering and business education.

Experience

• In-depth knowledge of the Canadian and international context around the Aerospace Research Centre technologies: industries, forums, trends, the issues and dynamics that impact them, and the engagement needed to keep this knowledge current.
• In depth scientific experience working in an area related to the aerospace research centre scientific and technological domains especially on digital manufacturing and materials, including both supporting and leading the development of programs or projects.
• Experience supervising and developing scientific staff in multidisciplinary teams, including in a matrix environment of projects and programs.
• Significant and recently demonstrated experience in applying the principles, tools and practices of leadership, administrative, financial, and human resource management.
• Significant experience with demonstrated success in developing partnership or business opportunities with industry, academia, government or other partnerships; demonstrating highly-effective interpersonal skills.
• Business knowledge within the relevant scientific and technological domains gained through experience with industry, government or other partnerships.

Compensation

From $135,621 to $162,680 per annum.
