We are currently seeking a Research and Development Accountant to join our Accounting Services Plant Indirect Team. In this role, you will play a key role in supporting Information Technology and Innovation business functions. Reporting to the Team Leader, Accounting \xe2\x80\x93 Plant Indirect you will be responsible for supporting month-end close, Innovation project analysis, fixed cost reporting, scientific research, and development (SR&ED), as well as audit requests.

This position can be located at our Red Deer Executive Place (RDEXP) in Red Deer, Alberta; our NOVA Head Office (NHO) in Calgary, Alberta; or our Manufacturing East Corporate Center (MECC) in Sarnia, Ontario.

You will Use Your Expertise to:
Independently carry out varied assignments requiring a broad application of GAAP/IFRS financial principles and internal policies and guidelines
Provide support related to cost accounting and reporting, including project analysis, and fixed costs
Apply your understanding of the implications of changes in contractual terms affecting Innovation and Information Technology
Provide technical expertise and consulting to Accounting Services leadership, Innovation leadership teams and Information Technology leadership to address financial and accounting issues
Fulfill requests for information with external and internal audit, ensuring compliance with internal control policy and processes
Reconcile accounts of varying complexity; provide analysis for discrepancies and correcting adjustments, if required
Complete ad hoc requests, as required
Anticipate and act on continuous improvement opportunities with the goal to create synergies and maximize our technology investments, while following NOVA Chemicals\xe2\x80\x99 values and practices.
Support the business in managing the fixed budget and forecast activities by cost center
Participate in benchmarking studies and other improvement initiatives
Support SR&ED tax fillings
Work with the accountants within the Accounting Services team on variance reporting

What\xe2\x80\xafWe\xe2\x80\xafAre\xe2\x80\xafLooking\xe2\x80\xafFor:
University graduate or equivalent with 5-7 years of related accounting experience or related field of study with strong accounting emphasis
Professional accounting designation is preferred
Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
An aptitude to understand complex processes and computerized financial and operational systems
Proficient use of SAP and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with and provide quality customer service to both internal and external customers
A self \xe2\x80\x93 starter with proven ability to establish and meet goals and deadlines
Ability to strive for results and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Ability to work with a diverse group of company personnel including operations, commercial, distribution and other accounting groups, as well as both internal and external auditors.
