The ABB Measurement & Analytics plant in Qu\xc3\xa9bec is the world leader in spectroscopy. Our Contract Engineering Department is Canada\'s largest supplier of space optical sensors used, among other things, for greenhouse gas emissions monitoring and weather forecasting worldwide. Our plant is also known for its expertise in the development and manufacture of various products that make it possible to meet several industrial analysis needs on a daily basis. By joining one of the largest engineering departments in Quebec City, you will actively contribute to our clients\' projects, as well as to the research and development of our technology. You will be part of a dynamic and stimulating multidisciplinary team. You will be in charge of the mechanical aspects surrounding the design of measuring instruments within the Measurement and Analysis business unit, in Quebec City, Canada. Attached to the opto-mechanical group, you will be responsible for the mechanical aspects related to the design, manufacture, and analysis for several projects to ensure a successful delivery on time, within budget, and in accordance with quality and safety guidelines. You will also be responsible for performing structural and thermal analyses to guide the design of these systems within the opto-mechanical team. The engineer sought has a developed physical sense, autonomy, aptitude for working in a multidisciplinary team, experience in research and development for the design and analysis of space systems.

Your responsibilities

  • Design aerospace and industrial instruments in accordance with the requirements, costs, and deadlines.
  • Choose and optimize the manufacturing processes (CNC machining, molding, folding, 3-D printing, and others).
  • Perform the FEA (structural and/or thermal) analyses to guide the mechanical design.
  • Check and sign off the plans in accordance with the geometric tolerancing standards.
  • Supervise the assembly and the mechanical environmental tests.
  • Participate in the multidisciplinary design reviews and give formal presentations to clients at critical milestones.
  • Actively participate in the planning tasks and technical proposals (estimation).

Your background

  • Bachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering with five to ten years of experience in complex systems development, knowledge of aerospace systems an asset.
  • Knowledge of structural and/or thermal finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Experience in designing instruments for harsh environments.
  • Knowledge of the materials, mechanical manufacturing processes, heat treatments, and surface treatments.
  • Member of the OIQ.
  • Bilingualism (French/English) and aptitudes for written and spoken communication.
