POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Finance reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and is directly responsible for the establishment of financial policies, procedures, controls and reporting systems and shall be accountable for general accounting, accounts receivable, collection and payroll. The Director of Finance shall also ensure the legal and regulatory compliance for Commissionaires Victoria's accounting and financial reporting functions and performs other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be an experienced and collaborative leader who is driven to build lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Hours: 0800 to 1600, Monday to Friday - excluding Stats

(May be required to work outside these hours from time to time)

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Collect, interpret and report financial data including business segment profitability, project performance metrics and risk assessment.
  • Report on a regular basis regarding company status against, and financial ability to meet, its strategic and operational objectives.
  • Lead Finance and executive teams in preparing CVIY's annual budget, manage the company budget and control expenses.
  • Submit CVIY's annual government services National Master Standing Offer (NMSO) budget to Public Services and Procurement Canada for approval.
  • Develop, monitor and enforce policies and procedures relevant to accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and project tracking.
  • Oversee CVIY's annual external financial audit.
  • Brief CVIY Audit Committee and Board of Governors on quarterly financials performance and year end financials.
  • Communicate and collaborate with departmental leaders.
  • Lead and supervise finance department staff.
  • Investigate variances in budgets, reporting, internal controls, and general accounting and deploy measures to resolve variances; and
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CEO.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS
  • Must have designation as a CA, CMA or CGA.
  • Must have at least five years experience as an accountant in a medium to large organization.
  • Must have at least five years experience dealing with accounting systems, budgets, internal controls, business planning, and asset management.
  • Proficiency with Sage AccPac or similar accounting software.
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and management skills.
  • Demonstrated excellent teamwork and team building skills.
  • Demonstrated strong problem identification and problem resolution skills.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Ability to respond appropriately under pressure with a calm and steady demeanour.
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite (i.e. Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
