Function & Overview
Under the direction of the Chief Operations Officer, the Director of Finance is responsible for the controlled management of all financial matters, including but not limited to, asset management, transactions and processes, risk management, policy, and insurance. The Director of Finance is responsible for the timely management and analysis of transactions, performing all financial duties in compliance with all applicable legal requirements, agreements, professional standards, and with the governance and operating policies of SNP. The position is responsible for the supervision and management of all Finance Department staff and is responsible for developing the overall financial strategic plan for the Institution. The Director of Finance is required to perform all duties consistent with the governance values and operating policies of Six Nations Polytechnic (SNP) while fostering positive relations with staff, students, stakeholders, and the community; contributing to a culturally supportive teaching, learning and work environment consistent with Hodin?sh?:nih/Rotinonhson:ni values of Ga'nigohi:yo:/Kanikoriio (Respect and the Good Mind).
Duties
The duties of the Director of Finance include, without limitation:
Planning and Analysis
Leading SNP's budget planning and forecasting processes;
Preparing monthly and quarterly budget and financial reports, as well as conducting analysis for SNP Leadership and the Board;
Overseeing the creation and ongoing improvement of the management of financial statements and audit documentation;
Coordinating and making recommendations for the annual general insurance policy renewal;
Contributing to project planning through the development of financial projections and estimates;
Ensuring the President/CEO and Chief Operations Officer are well informed regarding any trends or issues that are critical to the organization's financial performance;
Providing cost-value recommendations for purchases in excess of pre-established staff financial budgets, as outlined in Board policies;
Providing recommendations and implementing changes for process improvements, financial reporting systems, accounting procedures, investment activities, and financial control functions;
As part of the Capital Planning Committee, providing insights and knowledge into the ongoing capital planning efforts;
Leading strategic financial analysis and planning for the institution; this includes developing a thorough understanding of all revenue streams and associated risk profiles, as well as, in depth understanding of the financial operations of all SNP departments;
