The Institute of Health Economics (IHE) is an independent, not-for-profit organization with key competencies in health economics, health technology assessment, and knowledge transfer/exchange. Job Summary



The Director of Finance and Administration is a strategic and hands-on leader responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the organization, while also providing oversight to the human resources (HR) and information technology (IT) functions. The Director of Finance and Administration also serves as Treasurer to the Board of Directors. This is a remote position with the option to work in the downtown Edmonton office if preferred.

Leadership and Strategy



Collaborate closely with the CEO and Program Directors to deliver on the IHE's strategic plan. Implement measures to improve financial performance and operational efficiency of the organization, with an emphasis on long-term sustainability.

Financial Reporting



Prepare timely and accurate financial reporting for the CEO and Board of Directors, including quarterly and annual financial statements. Present clear insights and analysis to support strategic decision-making and ensure alignment with organizational goals. Keep abreast of emerging changes to ASNPO and potential impact on the IHE's financial statements.

Financial Planning and Cashflows



Develop the organization's annual budget, with input from Program Directors. Monitor performance against financial targets throughout the year, and work with Senior Leadership Team to course-correct where necessary. Manage the organization's cashflows, including cashflow forecasts and investment decisions.

Financial Operations and Compliance



Oversee day-to-day financial activities of the organization, including payroll, accounts receivable, and accounts payable. Supervise and mentor the Senior Bookkeeper and Project Accountant. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and tax requirements, including preparation and filing of all tax and corporate returns. Lead the annual audit process, coordinating with external auditors.

Project Accounting and Grant Reporting



Oversee project accounting, keeping Program Directors updated on their project budgets vs. actuals, with support from the Project Accountant. Ensure that all project-related expenditures are accurately coded, adhering to eligibility criteria of individual grant agreements. Ensure compliance with funder requirements and prepare financial reporting for restricted and unrestricted grants.

Internal Controls and Risk Management



Maintain a robust system of internal controls to safeguard organizational assets and maintain integrity in financial processes. Review and approve all contractual arrangements, liaising with external legal team as needed. Maintain the organization's risk registry matrix.

Human Resources (HR)



Provide oversight of the HR function for the organization, including drafting of employment contracts, advising division heads on staffing issues, and implementing and maintaining HR policies and procedures, with support from an external HR consultant.

Information Technology



Provide strategic oversight and guidance for the IT function, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the efficient delivery of technology solutions, with support from the IT Manager and third-party IT service provider. Supervise and mentor the IT Manager, and manage the relationship with third-party IT service provider.

Qualifications



CPA Designation Bachelor of Commerce or MBA Minimum 10 years of directly related experience, with 3 - 5 years in a similar role Excellent knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO) Experience with project accounting and grant reporting Superior attention to detail Analytical mind with strategic ability Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills Experience with system conversions and/or Great Plains would be considered an asset

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $125,000.00-$160,000.00 per year
