ROLE OVERVIEW: As a critical member of the Senior Finance team, you will be responsible for leading the internal and external financial reporting processes (IFRS) and managing the quarterly review and annual audit processes. You will be responsible for the annual budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning processes, where we will look to you for continuous improvements and opportunities to bolster and enhance the annual process including developing key metrics to measure business performance. You will also provide ad-hoc strategic decision support on acquisitions and other strategic initiatives. You will interact with multiple business leaders across our various business units to provide financial advice to help grow the business. You will also be responsible for maintaining and constantly improving the internal control processes and documentation. PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Direct, coordinate and review all financial reporting, ensuring the continued preparation of consolidated financial information which satisfies internal, regulatory and external requirements accurately and on a timely basis
  • Provide information and analysis that enables senior management to make critical operating and strategic decisions within the context of understanding their financial impact, providing early alerts to both opportunities and risks \xe2\x80\x93 this will include developing, implementing and preparing a monthly management report
  • Implement, monitor and ensure appropriate controls and procedures exist and are effective in ensuring the integrity of all financial information
  • Ensure all externally disclosed financial information complies with the various regulations, guidelines and disclosure requirements
  • Assess the impact and implement all necessary changes resulting from new accounting guidance in the form of Canadian, IFRS or OSC regulations or any other regulatory body which has influence on our accounting policies or disclosure requirements
  • Support, develop and manage the Corporate finance team of 5+ direct reports
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Analytics
  • Provide in depth analysis on variances to expectations, highlighting any significant risks and opportunities to senior management
  • Research, develop and implement tools to increase the efficiency of the reporting and budgeting processes
  • Develop strong relationships with business unit leaders and support key initiatives to grow the business by providing analytical support
  • Lead staff in developing new insights into the business and develop effective formats to communicate the results and analysis to appropriate parties
  • Lead the development and enhancement of key metrics to help measure business performance
Financial Reporting - Internal
  • Manage the consolidation process, leading up to the preparation of the financial statements and notes as well as the interaction with the auditors for the quarterly reviews and annual audit processes
  • Oversee month-end and quarter-end close process, GL reconciliations, variance analysis and intercompany reconciliations
  • Review completed quarterly CFO binder
  • Ensure policies, procedures and systems are in place to ensure accuracy of reported results
  • Complete review of all internally generated and distributed financial information
  • Complete review of all department and/or business unit results
  • Maintain the Company\xe2\x80\x99s systems for tracking and accounting for stock options, restricted share units and warrants
  • Complete stock option compensation calculations and disclosures including monthly shares available for issuance roll
  • Identify issues and ensure items are appropriately accounted for and ultimately resolved
  • Manage preparation of audit committee and board financial presentation
  • Monitor compliance with IFRS
    • Manage all debt covenants
Financial Reporting - External
  • Primary contact for the external audit and resolve any matters that arise
  • Final responsibility for timely and accurate preparation of all quarterly and annual reports and submission if required for SEDAR filing

  • Responsible for timely analysis, evaluation, communication and implementation of new accounting pronouncements
Tax Compliance
  • Manage the tax reporting and compliance program and contribute to future tax planning initiatives
  • Responsible for oversight of corporate tax preparation by external third-party providers
  • Ensure all tax submissions are completed and filed on a timely basis for all legal entities
  • Review all commodity tax filings
Business Planning/Forecasting
  • Manage the annual budgeting, monthly forecasting and strategic planning processes
  • Manage the long-term forecast process
  • Enhance existing processes by educating budget owners and creating a stronger sense of accountability
  • Overall responsibility for the latest best estimate for current fiscal year
  • Coordinate timing and expectations of and for business planning process
  • Review all business plans
  • Present draft business plans to CFO
  • Preparation of board of directors presentation
Compliance
  • Manage all TSX filings (SEDI, Form 1 updates)
  • Maintain black-out calendar
Contractual Agreements
  • Maintain model to calculate compliance with targets in contracts
  • Review and understand all new agreements
Other
  • Banking, payment approvals and cash disbursements
  • Assist in due diligence or other matters as required by CFO
  • Ensure staff are adequately trained and maintains current knowledge of IFRS and other areas impacting their responsibilities
  • Perform annual reviews of all staff performance and make recommendations for development and cross training opportunities
YOU HAVE:
  • A Chartered Professional Accountant designation (CA route preferred)
  • Experience working at a public company with a broad scope
  • Strong technical knowledge of IFRS
  • Knowledge of OSC reporting requirements
  • Well-developed analytical skills
  • Experience as an auditor
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Experience with Great Plains, QuickBooks, NetSuite an asset
