Director Of Cloud Operations And Security

Toronto, ON, Canada

Job Description

Join us as we change healthcare for the better.

OceanMD (formerly Ocean by CognisantMD) is the leading provider of EMR-integrated Patient Engagement and eReferral tools in Canada, playing a critical role in millions of patient visits and thousands of referrals every week. Our digital healthcare solutions empower patients and physicians to overcome the barriers preventing the timely delivery of healthcare services. By replacing paper forms with digital tools, we give patients and providers secure ways to connect, share health information, and update patient records. Our tools:

  • Empower patients to share health information with their physician before, during, and after visits, helping to ensure health records are up to date and accurate while improving patient care.
  • Meet the growing demand for virtual care solutions via an online booking system and secure messaging that brings significant benefits to patients while improving clinic efficiency and reducing the need for unnecessary phone calls.
  • Improve access to care by replacing faxes, calculating wait times, and reducing the time to process and access specialist referrals.
Who we need

As we continue to grow, we have a newly created opportunity for a Director of Cloud Operations and Security to join us in a mission-critical strategic, technical, and leadership role. You will oversee cloud operations for the Ocean platform, manage the cloud engineering team, and build platform infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) techniques. You will perform server infrastructure capacity and cost management forecasting, and participate in business unit governance, risk and compliance (GRC), TRA, PIA, penetration test and certification efforts. You will draw on your insights and expertise to ensure the integrity, availability, safety and security of Ocean server infrastructure and data, including monitoring and alerting.

This is a hybrid role based out of the North York office at Yonge St. and Lawrence Ave.

What\'s in it for you

Impact and influence. You want to make a difference in how Canadians experience the healthcare system and empower both patients and physicians with the technology they need to streamline access to information. You will play an essential leadership and technical role in bringing our products to Canadians by developing a robust strategy to ensure the security and resilience of the Ocean Platform, protecting the privacy of the individuals whose information is stored in it. This is a chance to use the latest tools, technologies, and practices to work on clinician and patient-facing products with high visibility and external impact.

A place to make a difference. You will be a key player at a company that is at an exciting point, rapidly moving past the scale-up stage while retaining the best of our startup values: responsiveness, work-life balance, hands-on innovation opportunities, and excitement. We are looking for dedicated, honourable individuals who want to commit to our work, take our offerings to the next level and the one beyond that, and help us grow as a company. In turn, as we continue to scale, we will take you on the journey with us, empowering you to introduce ideas, tools, and best practices that will ensure our collective success.

How you will make an impact
  • Team leadership. You will manage a team, fostering a culture of open communication and knowledge sharing. You will set priorities and strategic direction, measure performance, lead and contribute to the technical work, and ensure ongoing professional development and performance evaluation.
  • Design and deploy cloud infrastructure. You will design cloud hosted system components and deploy them using IaC techniques (Terraform and Ansible.) You will ensure the Ocean platform is well monitored and integrated into compliance tools, and that we hear about failures as they happen. You will oversee incident response policy and participate in production incident response.
  • Be a trusted advisor and consultant. You will collaborate with senior management on organizational priorities as they relate to Cloud Operations and Security. You will contribute to the Operations Team planning and technical design of the system, and you will provide guidance to the development team regarding system scalability, security and availability considerations.
  • Maintain and enhance security posture. You will raise awareness of system health and security threats and incidents. You will collaborate with the WELL Health GRC group to implement security controls applicable to software development methodologies and cloud-hosted infrastructure.
  • Manage and respond. You will ensure that security risks are identified and controls are implemented to mitigate risk across the Business Unit. You will identify, evaluate and document information security risks and ensure appropriate, accurate, and supported risk acceptance and resolutions are implemented.
What you bring

We\xe2\x80\x99re not picky about the specific technologies you\xe2\x80\x99ve used; we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for someone who has worked with a range of tools, can recommend the best options, rapidly come up to speed with what we have in place, and support and teach others how to use them. We prioritize a growth mindset at every level of our organization, the willingness to do, the strategic insights of a leader, and the ability to solve problems.
  • The technical experience. You have expertise in Information Security, Cloud Operations; and monitoring and alerting tools. Ideally, you have a health tech or similar background and experience with privacy and security for B2B cloud solutions. You have worked on the configuration, deployment and management of threat detection and response security tools. You have experience collaborating with multiple Information Security direct and indirect stakeholders to ensure the collective needs are being addressed.
  • The collaborative approach. You have professional communication skills and an inclusive, engaging management style to lead and inspire a team. You can build trusting relationships at any level and influence with and without authority. You are quick to adapt when priorities shift and take feedback well. You are comfortable with ambiguity and taking the initiative to figure things out when no clear, defined path or process is outlined.
Our culture, our team

We\'re a scaling company, past the startup stage and on the cusp of the next stage. We are incredibly passionate about our ability to make a difference in the lives of Canadians through our technology and we firmly believe that we can do our best work with realistic deadlines and transparent communication about where we are and what\'s next for us as an organization. We understand the time it takes to revolutionize a paper-based industry and develop and release high-quality resilient, compliant, and responsive technology that is easy to use so we ensure that pace is factored into our projects and deliverables across the organization.

Our focus is your growth and professional satisfaction, resulting in clear opportunities to help us scale and be better through your ideas, and the chance to be part of projects, and try new things. We are dedicated to our team, and we strongly believe that family comes first. To that end, we strive to find opportunities to support balance in the workplace and between work and home. As part of this, we have flexible hours, lunch socials (virtual for now but some physically-distanced small gatherings too), and meeting-free Friday afternoons.

Everyone here is deeply committed to what we can do - and the potential we have to do more. As a result, we provide an opportunity for CognisantCauses, our name for passion projects in healthcare where no funding is available and a little technical expertise and time is needed to make a big difference. It\'s a way to give back and to add further meaning to what you do here.
