Job Description


Here\'s what you\'ll be doing....Lead a team to support continued retail growth through various marketing channels while integrating efforts of promoting the University of Toronto brand with appropriate stakeholders. Oversee various aspects of online business operations, including strategy development, website optimization, social media strategy and execution, compliance with regulations, and team leadership. Key qualifications include experience in retail marketing and brand management.*For this position, we currently have the option of working totally in office or in a hybrid model.Key Responsibilities include:Developing and Implementing Marketing Strategies

  • Create and execute strategies aligned with company goals, focusing on brand development and use of ecommerce and social media tools to enhance strategies.
  • Manage and develop an organization that can delivery on marketing strategy.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders to understand and align brand with larger initiatives.
  • Use data and feedback to align product and media strategy to better reach new and emerging needs within the University of Toronto student body and customers.
  • Collaborate with peers within the Retail team to coordinate activity and approach to enhance performance.
Operational Management
  • Manage and lead the marketing department including the development of an effective organization and the attraction/coaching of high level talent.
  • Improve the customer experience both online and in our store locations through collaboration with our retail operations and the evaluation of customer intelligence, data and feedback.
  • Ensure sales channel(s) comply with applicable laws and regulations in Ontario.
  • Development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and metrics in order to establish and sustain a learning and growth environment at UTP Retail.
  • Manage and enhance the University of Toronto Press Bookstore/Retail including enhancements to our logo.
Team Leadership and Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Build a high-performing Marketing team; responsible for the recruitment and retention of highly skilled talent; participate in development plans for all direct reports, ensuring that team members are continuously elevating their capabilities. Identify key talent for future development.
  • Ensure safety of all members on team.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships and work closely with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure team members are trained on appropriate systems and devices.
  • Coordinate with Retail Operations, Retail Buying, Campus Outfitters and external stakeholders to align activities.
  • Build an inclusive culture that reflects UTP\'s values of Respect, Accountability, Innovation, and Customer Focus.
Customer Service:
  • Improve external communications through the use of improved processes, tools and methods.
  • Develop and improve feedback mechanisms to better understand customer trends and needs.
  • Improve internal communications through communication strategies and building/participating in a collaborative work environment.
Education, Qualifications, and Experience:
  • Post-secondary graduate; or equivalent education and/or experience in business, E-commerce, marketing, or related field.
  • Knowledge of web design or web development is an asset.
  • Knowledge of GA4, HubSpot and NetSuite is an asset.
  • Knowledge of online retail portals is an asset.
  • Knowledge of social media opportunities is an asset.

  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships with others both internally and externally to achieve the goals of the organization.
  • Ability to assess situations to determine the importance, urgency and risks, and make clear decisions which are timely and in the best interests of the organization.
  • Excellent negotiation skills.
  • Experience in brand management.
