Role summary The Anglican Diocese of Ottawa (ADO) is seeking a director of human resources, an executive position, reporting to the Bishop of Ottawa, and is part of his senior leadership team. The director\xe2\x80\x99s leadership and management functions include supporting both the strategy and operations across the diocese composed of the parishes and the community ministries that are serving the vulnerable sector in our community. The HR department is supported by an HR Generalist staff and leverages on HR systems / automation (such as HRIS, ATS and HRDownload) in the delivery of its services. This role has an exciting opportunity to share ideas and work closely with all the leaders in the diocese to bring forward impactful HR programs and initiatives that will help achieve the goal of achieving the strategic goals of the diocese in serving the faithful and its community. ADO is a non-profit organization, discover who we are at https://www.ottawa.anglican.ca/ Duties and responsibilities Strategy: \xc2\xb7 Provide human resources management strategies to support the mission and ministry goals of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa. \xc2\xb7 Guide/advise the senior leadership team in addressing current people challenges and long-term opportunities to grow the diocese\xe2\x80\x99s human resources. \xc2\xb7 Participate and maintain strong internal relations with the Diocesan Council, standing committees, project teams and management boards in pursuing the goals of the parishes and the community ministries. Operations: \xc2\xb7 Deliver the various HR services such as: search and recruitment, employment contract initiation and management, employee relations, employee development, among others. \xc2\xb7 Support the development of the clergy, parish leaders, and the leaders in the community ministries in handling common HR matters in their respective operations making them effective line managers of people. \xc2\xb7 Provide the parishes and community ministries with systems/tools to address or deal with common HR needs/issues in their operations. \xc2\xb7 Advise or provide direct support in effectively managing employee relations issues. Policy Development, Implementation & Governance: \xc2\xb7 Establish or update HR policies, processes and procedures and implement them. \xc2\xb7 Interpret employment legislations, guide, and ensure that employees and the whole diocese comply with their requirements (ESA, OHS, AODA, etc.) which may include communications and training. \xc2\xb7 Keep updated with new legislations and HR trends that need to be adapted for the diocese or to a particular unit of its operations. Development of the HR Practice \xc2\xb7 Launch and maintain the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) and maximize its use for the delivery of HR services and for internal efficiencies. \xc2\xb7 Introduce current/or enhance current HR tools/processes to enhance the delivery of HR programs and services (development of job descriptions, job analysis and evaluation, recruitment process, performance management, talent management, among others). \xc2\xb7 Develop parishes and community ministries leaders to take the responsibility of being \xe2\x80\x9cline HR managers\xe2\x80\x9d. Advisory Functions: \xc2\xb7 Develop a trusted advisor\xe2\x80\x99s relationship with the bishop, senior staff, Community Ministry executive directors, councils and committees, enabling collaboration and increased integration in communications and development strategic plans. \xc2\xb7 Collaborate with the above indicated people and groups to solve and manage issues or work on opportunities for the growth of the whole diocese. Knowledge and Skills Education & Certification: o A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in human resources management, Business Management, Psychology, Sociology, or any related course combined with experience. o A certified HR professional in Ontario (CHRP, CHRL, CHRE) will be an advantage. Knowledge and Experience o Minimum of eight years experience in the field of Human Resources. Inclusive of that minimum experience is at least four years in leadership roles directly dealing with top executives and members of the leadership team. o Alignment with the values and visions of the Anglican Diocese of Ottawa (see website). o Relevant experience working in a church environment and/or non-profit organization would be an asset, as well as the ability to quickly appreciate and adapt to the dynamics of new work environment. o Solid and current knowledge of trends and technologies in the HR field. Skills: o Ability to provide excellent service, and a sincere attitude to serve people, understanding their needs and providing solutions. o Proven leadership and collaboration skills that deliver results, build confidence and trust. Ability to provide expert advice to fellow leaders and groups. o Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. o Skilled in the use and administration of Human Resources Information System (HRIS), preferably the BambooHR platform. o Proficient in the use of English, both written and spoken. French language proficiency is an asset. o Strategic thinker and sound decision maker. o Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. o Professional demeanor and ability to exercise tact, judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and a high degree of political acuity. o Agility or nimbleness with a good sense of people\xe2\x80\x99s readiness to change and an ability to initiate changes in a timely manner. Other requirements: \xc2\xb7 Must be willing to provide reference checks from previous work and to undergo police clearance for a criminal background check; both must have results to the satisfaction of the Diocese. \xc2\xb7 Must be willing to regularly travel within the Ottawa diocese to visit and support the parishes and Community Ministries for their HR needs. \xc2\xb7 Must be willing to report at the Diocese office on an everyday basis, Monday to Friday (this is not remote work but with flexible hours). \xc2\xb7 Health and safety rules require that employees are fully vaccinated for COVID-19. Salary and Employment Status Annual salary is $115,000. Full-time with competitive benefits and generous pension program.
