Hiring Range: $86,000 - $110,000

Role Overview:

The Director Event Sales and Business Development optimizes the use of event venues across the Artscape portfolio to ensure increased revenue streams and maintain exceptional standards of customer service throughout the sales process. This role will work closely with Director, Events Operations and lead the team of sales and customer service staff for event space rentals across multiple Artscape venues, and liaise with the Director of event operations. All Artscape venues are operated as social enterprises that use a sliding scale model to facilitate affordable access to high-quality event spaces for a large cross-section of people and organizations.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day management of the Artscape event sales and business development portfolio, providing expertise and oversight of sponsorship opportunities
  • Oversees recruiting, training and management of sales and customer service team members
  • Sets goals and objectives and provides ongoing support, motivation, guidance and feedback to sales coordinators in areas of customer service, up-selling and cross-selling, and product knowledge, identifying opportunities for development of the sales team, linking achievements to Performance Management Plan goals and career planning
  • Creates a positive and collaborative team environment within the sales team, leads by example, develops strong a positive relationship with tenants and stakeholders as it relates to APEV sales, and Artscape\xe2\x80\x99s community-building efforts
  • Approves venue contracts, negotiated venue rates, budget expenses, payments and invoices as per Artscape\xe2\x80\x99s finance and procurement policies and provides recommendations for overall Artscape events portfolio budget
  • Subject matter expert in Artscape\xe2\x80\x99s venues and sales process, providing expertise and insight regarding current and emerging trends and competition in event management, live performance, catering and other related sectors to provide added value to servicing events and clients
  • Identifies new prospects and potential clients and leads outreach efforts to secure new business, including cold-calling from inbound leads and sales pipeline, identify potential Community Access Program (CAP) recipients and collaborate with Community Hub Manager for seamless transition into CAP pipeline
  • Communicates client needs to event operations as discussed in sales process and on-site tours, and facilitates a timely and smooth client transition to event operations team
  • Supports the development and execution of marketing campaigns for APEV related initiatives
  • Builds business cases and reporting analyses of the APEV portfolio including monthly reporting on revenue targets, financial status, lead generation other related sales reporting with recommended courses of action
  • In collaboration with Director, Event Operations, to achieve budgetary targets through efficient and cost-effective management of event sales, maximizing the potential for new business while adhering to the APEV mandate for accessibility and the community focus mandate of Artscape\xe2\x80\x99s cultural hubs
  • Works collaboratively with Director, Event Operations, to ensure proactive planning of APEV activities and problem solve considerations between sales and event operations
  • Overlooks the administration of the sales functions for Salesforce, developing organizational-wide processes for the sales system
  • Monitors workflow and account activity in Salesforce to ensure timely follow-up with clients to increase close rates and repeat business
  • Receives escalated customer service issues from first level management regarding on site and post event issues; mediates heightened conflict situations and provides solutions
  • Attends event industry and networking events, representing APEV; builds a contact list of potential clients, and maintains a follow-up schedule for these contacts
  • Contributes to the APEV strategic planning process, provides expert recommendations and problem solves solutions to drive high-performing APEV portfolio
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary education in event management, theatre studies, business administration, sales, marketing, event management or a related field
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience managing sales and customer services staff across various venues with multiple event and client types
  • Working knowledge of production, front-of-house operations and event logistics as it pertains to the sales process
  • Committed and interested in working with various customers and partners ranging from grassroots arts organizations to professional event producers.
  • Competent in planning strategic systems and problem-solving
  • Proven experience in creating high-performing teams: scheduling, supervising, motivating, providing feedback, disciplining, conducting performance reviews, etc.
  • A confident and personable communicator with excellent written and oral skills, integrity, inspires trust and capable of building relations with people from all walks of life and displays sound judgement in decision making
  • A self-motivated and highly organized fast-paced learner with an ability to adapt to changing conditions and the multi-dimensional nature of this position
  • Strong collaboration, negotiation and sales skills; understanding of sales processes and what it takes to convert leads into sales
  • Demonstrated strength in fostering diversity, equity and inclusion in community building, an understanding of the mandate of the applicable Artscape
  • Advanced skill level with Microsoft Office suite
  • Experience with Salesforce is considered an asset
  • Fluent in English (written and spoken). Other languages are considered an asset
  • This role may require flexible hours to accommodate the event and/or client requirements.
