Cardinal Health Canada, with over 1,300 employees nationwide, is an essential link in the Canadian healthcare supply chain, providing over 70,000 products to healthcare facilities and medical professionals across the country.
The Canadian EHS Director will report directly to the Sr. Director, EHS - East Zone with dotted line reporting into the Canadian VPs of Operations. This leadership role is responsible for the development and delivery of risk mitigation strategies across all Cardinal Health's Canadian operations. These strategies and programs are designed to manage, mitigate and, whenever possible, eliminate environmental, health, safety risks to Cardinal Health employees, facilities, and communities in which the company operates. This key leadership role will focus on regulatory and company compliance requirements while supporting other enterprise risk initiatives such as business resiliency and property/casualty protection (FM Global recommendations). The EHS Director will serve as the primary business partner for distribution, manufacturing, and commercial operations in Canada, supporting ten (10) or more facilities across multiple provinces. This role will lead a small team of regional EHS specialists in the development and rollout of programs and policies across the country.

Your contributions to the organization will be:
Leadership & Consulting
Drives implementation of the global EHS strategy in Canada to mitigate risk to people, property, community, information, and brand.
Collaborates with Segment and business unit EHS leaders to implement tactical actions and activities in the provinces.
Partners with operations leaders, functional leaders, and staff across all businesses in Canada to drive continual EHS and risk management improvements.
Ensures critical information is communicated across the country and to executive leadership.
Participates in business mergers, acquisitions, integrations, and divestitures impacting Canadian operations.
Hazard Recognition, Evaluation & Control/Regulatory Compliance
Leads in the management of operation specific EHS hazard assessments and the development of risk mitigation plans.
Partners with leaders to ensure the Cardinal Health EHS management system, standards, policies and procedures are implemented in Canadian operations.
Analyzes key EHS metrics to assist operations in the construction and execution of continual improvement plans.
Assists leaders in identifying budgetary needs to address risk reduction and compliance assurance.
Ensure key performance metrics, including occupational injury/illness and environmental sustainability results are accurately reported and communicated.
Assists with the response to regulatory agency inquiries and reporting obligations.
Participates in assessments and audits across the enterprise.
Provides EHS and risk mitigation expertise to business leaders within Canada.
Provides technical assistance and guidance in all risk-related matters, including ergonomics, industrial hygiene, safety, environmental, incident investigation, drug free workplace, loss prevention, business resiliency and occupational health processes.
Occupational Injury/Illness, Loss Prevention, Crisis Management & Business Resiliency
Leads the overall investigation, notification and case management for occupational injury/illness claims for Canada.
Assists Canadian operations to close out property/casualty recommendations from third parties such as FM Global.
Provides support in the development and documentation of robust business resiliency plans.
Assists in the development and deployment of crisis management tabletop exercises.
Demonstrates active leadership during business continuity situations.
Education & Mentorship
Manages, develops, and mentors site-level EHS staff in the region.
Educates and coaches management teams within the region on their EHS roles and responsibilities.
Assists in developing bench strength across the enterprise.
Helps foster a diverse workforce.

Leadership Skill:
Bachelor's degree in related field required. Advanced degree and professional certification (CRSP/CSP, CIH, CHMM, etc.) strongly preferred

Technical Skills:
Minimum 10 years' experience managing EHS for multiple operations
Experience in distribution centers and/or manufacturing operations
Strong familiarity, understanding and experience in EHS Management Systems and their successful implementation
Must have strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, the Canadian Environmental Protection Act, as well as varying provincial occupational injury/illness requirements
Proven experience implementing effective companywide EHS and risk mitigation programs
Strong technical ability to work, collaborate and negotiate with government officials, consultants, and other third-party stakeholders
Requires up to 50% travel
