We are seeking a health and safety professional to join our team as the Director, Environmental Health & Safety. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development, implementation and direction of corporate health and safety, regulatory affairs, claims management and environmental programs in order to achieve a proactive approach to maintaining a safe, healthy, productive, and environmentally conscious workplace.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Directs the development, implementation and management of corporate loss control programs, processes, and policies in order to ensure compliance with legislative requirements, while maintaining congruence with corporate business plans and objectives.
  • Ensures EH&S programs and protocols meet or exceed federal and provincial regulations working in conjunction with Viterra Global EH&S team.
  • Consults with Viterra Global Sustainability group to ensure we meet a reduction in our carbon emissions as to our commitments.
  • Serves as an expert resource to ensure an understanding of emerging trends in the areas of health, safety, regulatory affairs, and the environment, and directs the implementation of concepts and approaches to pro-actively meet these challenges.
  • Consults with operations leaders to identify current and future business developments which may impact the areas of health, safety, regulatory affairs, and the environment, and develops approaches to effectively manage potential issues.
  • Develops and maintains effective cross-divisional communications with business and associated company health, safety, regulatory and environment staff, in order to ensure a coordinated and efficient corporate approach to program and service delivery.
  • Directs the development of corporate and global environmental action plans, including initiatives aimed to advise and educate farmers.
  • Maintains regular and ongoing contact with regulatory bodies and leaders in the fields of health, safety, regulatory and the environment in order to benchmark practices against the market and identify and implement best practices.
  • Leads, coaches, and manages the EH&S team to ensure awareness and commitment to organization goals and objectives. Creates a work environment which fosters teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of programs and services on an ongoing basis, implementing enhancements with the goal of continuously improving service delivery, and employee health and safety, within and external to the workplace.
  • Monitors the progress towards the achievement of annual team strategies and objectives and develops and implements contingencies as required.
  • Represents the company\'s interests on external health, safety, regulatory and environmental committees to influence future direction, determine the impact of the change and initiate required action within the company to ensure compliance and the ongoing effective operation of company business.
  • Develops, implements, and manages safety and loss control and regulatory training for the company.
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in science, natural science, or engineering, along with a CRSP (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) designation.
  • Ten years of progressively responsible experience in the areas of health, safety, regulatory affairs, or the environment within an industrial setting. At least five years of this experience should have been in a managerial capacity.
  • Excellent risk assessment skills with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision making.
  • The ability to coach and develop people while working within the terms of a collective agreement and human resource policies.
  • Familiarity with industry regulations and policies.
