About the role

The Sun Life Global Investments team in Canada are embarking on a strategic transformation of the technology capabilities that support Sun Life Global Investments. The successful candidate for this role will have the ability to bring a strategic mindset in understanding the Sun Life Global Investments strategy and work with business partners to develop a roadmap to transform Sun Life Global Investments capabilities onto modern and strategic platforms. What you’ll be doing: Working with business and IT leaders in the Sun Life Global Investments Platform team to assess the business context and change requirements to map out the Sun Life Global Investments technology architecture future state. This includes defining requirements, principles and models to guide technology decisions for the Sun Life Global Investments platform. For all initiatives, within Sun Life Global Investments, you will create architecture solutions that build toward and align with the technology architecture future state. In addition, this role will also be responsible for the following:

• Shape technical strategy for Sun Life Global Investments (e.g., build vs. buy decisions, modernization approach, technical road-mapping)
• Drive modernization, cloud and API adoption across Sun Life Global Investments platforms
• Provide direct day to day tactical coaching, direction and guidance to technical leaders within the Sun Life Global Investments platform teams
• Evaluate and identify appropriate technology stacks, platforms and vendors, including web application frameworks and cloud providers for solution development
• Support the usage of Agile methodologies and DevOps frameworks for Sun Life Global Investments delivery
• Provide guidance and insight to establish governance processes, direction and control to ensure objectives are achieved and risks are managed appropriately for the evolution of Sun Life Global Investments platforms

What experience you’ll need: This role requires the unique combination of both knowledge of the Financial Services landscape in Canada together with a deep technology knowledge. The business knowledge must have been acquired through heavy involvement in a series of large projects over several years working in Financial Services organizations. The technology knowledge requires a career spent in IT, with proven experience in supporting the delivery of Wealth Management or Investments technology capabilities. Additionally, this role requires comprehensive knowledge of the following:

• Specialized Architecture Road mapping skills, frameworks, patterns and models.
• Technology Industry - vendors, solutions, emerging technology
• Technology solutions within Financial Services organizations with an understanding of the technologies that are available to meet the Wealth Management or Investments needs of those organizations
• Ability to quickly understand and connect with Sun Life’s business strategies.

• Ability to liaise with internal and external stakeholders and adapt approach when dealing with technical and non-technical audiences.
• Engaging IT and Business leaders to drive innovative, shared solutions.

• Proven leadership: ability to articulate ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences and influence a diverse group of senior stakeholders

• Engaging teams of shared service individuals from across Sun Life.
• Broad experience in senior engineering and technology roles working with product development teams, delivering, and building digital products
• Experience in Agile software development methodologies and processes, including DevSecOps, CI/CD and Agile release management
• Believes in a non-hierarchical culture of collaboration, transparency, and trust across the team
• Ability to empower teams and encourage fierce collaboration
• Critical thinker and passion to challenge status quo to find new solutions and drive out of the box ideas – loves and embraces change
• Experimental mindset to drive innovation and continuous improvement of teams
• A depth and breadth of understanding in the digital technology space
• A wide experience and understanding of architecture in terms of solution, data, and integration
• Operational knowledge of AWS cloud technology frameworks including VPC’s, EC2, S3, Glacier, Redshift, Sagemaker and many more. Experience with alternative major cloud environments will also be considered.

You will need the following experience:

• Successful completion of a Masters or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, IT Management or related field.
• Minimum of 5 years architecture experience supporting in Financial Services in Canada with experience transforming Wealth Management or Investments platforms.
• Deep knowledge of application development, application programming interfaces (APIs), Cloud / SaaS application integration and middleware to enable the needs of Sun Life Global Investments.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance.
