Job Details

Position Title: Digital Solutions Engineer, Infrastructure - ITS - FT Support

Status: Full-Time Support

Hours: 40 hours per week

Faculty/Department: Information Technology Services

Campus/Location: North Campus; Hybrid

Payband/Hourly Rate: FT Support J 39.15 - 45.38

What you will do:

Digital Solutions Engineers build and integrate information and computer systems that meet specific business needs. This typically involves integrating software and hardware that will best meet the purpose defined by a customer. Key areas of focus for Digital Solutions Engineers include: (1) how technology can be used to solve a given business problem; (2) which framework, platform, or tech-stack can be used to create a solution; (3) how a solution will look, what the modules will be, and how they will interact with each other; (4) how things will scale for the future and how they will be maintained; (5) figuring out the risk in third-party frameworks/platforms; and (6) finding a solution to a business problem. Digital Solution Engineers also examine the architecture of existing systems and work with appropriate stakeholders and other technical resources to recommend solutions that result in outcomes that are more effective.

Established in 2019 as a business unit of Information Technology Services, key areas of focus for Digital Solutions include: (1) communication & collaboration; (2) emerging technologies (artificial intelligence & machine learning, digital identification & payment systems, virtual & augmented reality, virtual digital assistants, etc.); (3) hosting & infrastructure; (4) infrastructure access & threat protection; (5) personal computing & mobility; and (6) surveillance & security systems. The team also enables research in the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation. In summary, Digital Solutions\xe2\x80\x99 mandate is to pursue solutions that make people\xe2\x80\x99s lives better!

Key Responsibilities Include

Operations

• Running solutions in production
• Overseeing of infrastructure assets
• Controlling solution configurations
• Evolving the infrastructure
• Mitigating against disasters
• Monitoring and measuring operations

Projects

• Conceptualizing and initiating service excellence projects
• Defining and planning service excellence projects
• Launching or executing on projects
• Monitoring and controlling service excellence project performance
• Closing out service excellence projects

Administration

• Creating and implementing solution visions and directions
• Leading, guiding, and evaluating future talent
• Soliciting guidance from industry experts
• Creating an organization that will grow and flourish

Qualifications

What you bring to the role:

Education

• Four-year degree or equivalent in Computer Sciences and/or Information Technology Management.
• Information Technology Infrastructure Library v4 Foundations, Agile Certified Practitioner (Project Management Institute), and A+ (CompTIA).
• Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert: Cloud Platform and Infrastructure (Microsoft), Oracle Linux System Administrator (Oracle), Red Hat Certified Engineer (Red Hat), Server+ (CompTIA), VMware Certified Professional 6.5 - Data Center Virtualization (VMware), AWS Certified Solutions Engineer \xe2\x80\x93 Professional, Network+ (CompTIA), and/or Security+ (CompTIA).

Experience

• Minimum eight years of hands-on experience in large, complex environments designing, building, operating, maintaining, and securing enterprise-class solutions of a digital nature.
