Position Summary:

The Digital Communications & Marketing Associate supports the overall communications functions of the Office of the Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation) (OVPR&I) and its ancillary units, including the Office of Sponsored Research and the Office of Innovation and Partnerships, Digital Research Services. Reporting to the Associate Director (AD), Research Communications & Marketing, they support the AD to create the necessary supporting communications content, including written and multimedia content, to build awareness of the units\xe2\x80\x99 services, and of the university\xe2\x80\x99s research grants and awards, research publications, events, and other initiatives.

They are tasked with overseeing the development and maintenance of the OVPR&I websites and social media accounts. They are responsible for the logistical planning and execution of the annual Bravo Research Gala. In addition, they assist with special projects and events, including the Beatty Memorial Lecture, in a manner that is consistent with the University\xe2\x80\x99s mission and communications priorities. The position requires a proactive, driven and detail-oriented team player, who possesses expertise in writing for public relations, and for the web, website administration and expertise in developing social media content and campaigns. She or he must have proven abilities to work across a variety of fields and think critically about a wide range of program and communications issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

Website and social media administration:

  • Generating content and administering the development of the R&I websites, including generating and publishing news, event promotions, updates to staff biographies, etc.
  • Administering the OVPR&I social media feeds and posting content.
  • Monitoring analytics for social media and website activity to provide data-driven feedback and recommendations.
  • Identifying opportunities for R&I online and social media presences to develop new content and expand reach.
  • Planning and executing digital marketing campaigns in support of McGill\xe2\x80\x99s research mission and the communications, marketing, branding, and public affairs objectives of OVPR&I.
Communications and marketing support:
  • Produces and sources McGill research-related stories on topics such as faculty prizes and awards, research news, staff achievements, activities, and events
  • Creates, researches, edits, and formats content in various stages of production, including written and graphic design, for the Faculty of Science\xe2\x80\x99s digital communications channels, including social media and email newsletters
  • Produces photos and videos for distribution through the University\xe2\x80\x99s digital networks
  • Supporting the communications unit in staying abreast of the communications needs of R&I units, as well as of the major developments in each unit, to ensure R&I is appropriately represented in all external and internal publications.
  • Creating designed materials, such as R&I invitations for events, and promotional materials, such as online ads and other marketing materials
  • Producing research for press releases, messaging documents, and other media-focused materials
  • Assisting in the preparation of briefings and speeches for the Vice-Principal (Research and Innovation), Principal, and other senior administrators.
  • Drafting official correspondence on behalf of the OVPR&I and the Principal\xe2\x80\x99s Office.
  • Providing logistical support, when necessary, at R&I events and activities.
Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
  • Creativity and ability to see communications and marketing issues from multiple perspectives.
  • Demonstrated communication skills (excellent command in spoken and written English, proficiency in spoken and written French an asset).
  • Deep knowledge of social media platforms. Graphic and web design skills (knowledge of layout and design concepts and software, such as Publisher and Photoshop).
  • HTML knowledge an asset. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A high attention to detail to prepare documents that are consistently of the highest quality in terms of content, format, and design.
  • Experience conducting research using in-house databases and external sources.
  • Proven ability to create and edit communications content, such as articles, social media, and email newsletters, in English and French. Interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • Experience with photography, podcasting and/or video production an asset. Experience in a PC environment.

Minimum Education and Experience: DEC III 3 Years Related Experience /

Hourly Salary: (MUNACA Level G) $31.19 - $38.65
