The Development Advisory team is a full-service real estate platform that has offices in Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary. Who you are
As the Development Planner, you will be responsible for providing research, policy and analytical support to the Development Advisory Team working with a wide range of clients. The Development Planner will work closely with senior staff in carrying out strategic planning assignments which clients rely upon to make significant business decisions.

What you bring


  • University degree in Architecture, Engineering, Urban Planning or Urban Land Economics (or an equivalent combination of academic practical experience).

  • Minimum of two (2) years\xe2\x80\x99 work experience in a similar position in the Commercial real estate sector, Residential real estate sector or a related industry is preferred.

  • Exceptional analytical skills; strong ability to think through range of possibilities and scenarios and communicate these possibilities, accompanied with sound solutions, to a wide range of parties.

  • Knowledge of regulatory and Planning processes and policies, Provincial Planning Act, current development processes and trends.

  • Knowledge of various types of construction methodologies project management models and financial management as well as zoning bylaws and contract law.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Good communicator, motivated, diligent, energetic and positive attitude.

  • Ability to take direction and implement the development program in accordance with the project objectives.

  • Proven success for building and sustaining strong relationships with team members and partners, including community stakeholders and government authorities.


Bonus skills and experience

  • An MBA would be considered an asset.

  • Professional industry-recognized designations are considered an Asset.

  • AutoCAD skills considered an asset.


What success looks like

  • You successfully liaise with Civic Planning Staff on a variety of real estate/development issues, to create robust decisions and solutions.

  • You provide GIS mapping support for strategic planning reports. This could include preparing demographic propensity maps, trade area analyses, or mapping to identify market potential.

  • Research, analyze, and produce insights from data such as population projections, demographics, and the real estate market;

  • Create 3D massing models of development potential on a site using SketchUp software;

  • Provide members of the public with information regarding development projects and coordination of community consultation events.

  • Ability to analyze various pieces of information (case studies, policies etc.) and communicate findings by preparing report / presentation.

  • Research, interpret, and apply planning policy, including the feasibility of potential amendments, to projects;

  • Work closely with financial analysts to develop opinions, produce recommendations, and deliver studies, such as development feasibility analyses, to clients

  • Prepare and deliver impactful presentations to clients and stakeholders (e.g., municipal planners);

  • Track changes in planning (e.g., new area plan adopted), political (e.g., election outcomes), and economic (e.g., development financing incentives) environments and their impact on projects.

  • Obtain market comparable sale/leases in support of the financial analysis.
