  • Where You Come In
We are looking for a Development Officer to join our team at Make-A-Wish Canada. Reporting to the Chapter Director, this role is overseeing and coordinating all assigned events (primarily third party but also first party when necessary) in Nova Scotia, including the planning, execution and follow-up of events where applicable.
This includes, but is not limited to securing sponsorships, donor development, and researching opportunities to develop events increasing provincial revenue. This position will also work with volunteers throughout the province, ensuring retention and growth of the volunteer program within our communities. Acting as a representative of the Foundation, this position safeguards the interests of the Foundation, the Wish Families, and the event participants by following established procedures and guidelines ensuring the high quality of every event and all sponsorships. This role may also assist other Atlantic provinces on a need-be basis.
This role is based out of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and is a full-time, permanent, hybrid position.
  • What You Will Do
  • Apply event management principles and processes to manage the full cycle of events, ensuring high standards for all events are met.
  • Develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders (national office, provincial offices, volunteers, supplies, sponsors, donors, community liaisons, media community leaders etc.)
  • Work with the Brand Marketing and Communications Department on content for social media, sponsorships, and information documents.
  • Establish and provide support to event committees (third-party) as required to ensure the success of events (e.g., guidance, materials, staff/volunteers, timelines, etc.)
  • Use the existing wish granting database and work in collaboration with wish granting staff to identify appropriate wish families for event participation.
  • Collaborate with the Chapter Director and Manager of Development in identifying opportunities for development and growth in sponsorship, awareness, and donations (e.g., sponsorships for: event d\xc3\xa9cor, silent auction, prizes, food and drinks, entertainment, supplies, equipment, venues, etc.).
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of The Occupational Health & Safety Act in the applicable province of employment and its regulations, and complies with the Foundation\xe2\x80\x99s Health & Safety Policy.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • What You Bring
  • Post-secondary education in fundraising/business or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must know the basics of social media platforms \xe2\x80\x93 Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • 2 -3 years working experience in the fundraising field (events, campaigns, and working with volunteers), preferably in a multi-level organization within diverse communities.
  • Ability to work independently and on various tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated experience in overseeing events and working with others (staff and volunteers) on a job to achieve the best results.
  • Must be highly motivated and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Good oral and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to speak to groups of people in a variety of settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in problem solving and displaying sound judgement.
  • Demonstrated time management and organizational skills. Flexibility with changing priorities and ability to remain focused to meet targeted timelines.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook/Word/Excel).
  • Demonstrated experience in using databases, and the ability to learn and adapt to new technology and software (i.e. Salesforce).
  • Valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • A clear Criminal Background Check is required.
  • Fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at least 14 days prior to your first day of work, subject to relevant accommodations or exemptions.
  • Your Work Environment
  • We operate on a hybrid work schedule of 2 days in-office per week and 3 days remote; however, you may regularly be required to be out of the office for visits with sponsors and donors, for site visits, and attending events in the community.
  • Required to work outside of regular office hours during peak season.
Physical/Mental Effort
  • Emotional situations in dealing with wish recipients and families facing life threatening conditions or illnesses, in palliative care, and end-of-life stages.
  • Physical activity may include lifting of boxes with materials, setting up equipment, etc., up to a maximum of 50lbs.
  • Works under high degree of pressure on day of events to ensure logistics and all aspects of events are carried out successfully.
