Position Summary
The Depot Manager is responsible for the overall operation and performance of the MEDLOG container yard depot. This includes leading and overseeing the Depot Supervisor, Crane Operators, and Container Checkers to ensure safe, efficient, and optimized yard operations. The Depot Manager will work in close collaboration with the Trucking Division to coordinate container movements, manage yard space utilization, and uphold safety standards.
Key Accountabilities
Oversee daily operations of the container yard, ensuring all activities run safely, smoothly, and in compliance with company procedures and safety regulations.
Supervise and provide leadership to the Depot Supervisor, Crane Operators, and Container Checkers, including scheduling, performance management, and training.
Monitor yard capacity and container flows in collaboration with the Trucking Division to ensure space is optimized and container staging is aligned with delivery schedules.
Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free yard by enforcing proper container stacking, traffic flow, and waste management practices.
Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of the depot environment, equipment, and staff procedures; lead or support incident investigations as required.
Monitor crane utilization, fuel usage, and equipment maintenance schedules to maximize productivity and reduce downtime.
Track depot KPIs and operational metrics, identify inefficiencies, and implement process improvements.
Collaborate with internal departments such as dispatch, fleet, and client services to align depot operations with broader business objectives.
Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal safety, transportation, and environmental regulations.
Qualifications and Competencies

Minimum 5 years of experience in container yard or logistics operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Strong leadership and team management skills with experience overseeing both unionized and non-unionized teams (if applicable).
Solid understanding of container handling, heavy equipment operations, and transportation logistics.
Proven ability to manage space and flow in high-volume yard environments.
Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
Knowledge of safety standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., OH&S, CVOR, etc.).
Proficient in Microsoft Office and yard management systems (YMS) or other relevant software.
