About the Role
We are seeking a
CUSMA Specialist - HS Code and Regional Content Compliance
to support our international trade compliance, product classification, and cross-border operations. This role is ideal for a trade compliance professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will ensure accurate product classifications, manage CUSMA and Regional Value Content (RVC) compliance, and support global importing activities.
Key Responsibilities
Trade Compliance and HS Classification
Analyze and classify manufactured products, assemblies, and components using correct HS codes.
Review technical drawings, specifications, and bills of materials to confirm accurate product classifications.
Maintain and update internal product classification and trade compliance databases.
CUSMA and International Trade Operations
Determine product eligibility for preferential treatment under CUSMA and ensure regulatory compliance.
Calculate and document Regional Value Content (RVC) using transactional and net cost methods.
Interpret and apply rules of origin, de minimis thresholds, and CUSMA-specific requirements.
Provide expert guidance on international customs procedures, import regulations, and trade documentation from key global regions.
Support import activities and ensure compliance with international trade laws outside North America.
Documentation and Supplier Coordination
Prepare, issue, and maintain Certificates of Origin and other required trade documentation.
Work with procurement, engineering, and logistics teams to ensure supplier compliance with regional content and international trade documentation standards.
Respond to customs broker inquiries and support cross-border logistics teams in resolving international shipping issues.
Audit Support and Regulatory Monitoring
Support internal and external customs audits by providing complete and traceable trade and classification records.
Monitor changes in CUSMA regulations, Canadian customs laws, and international trade requirements, and communicate updates to management.
Recommend process improvements to ensure regulatory alignment and efficient trade operations.
Qualifications
Degree, diploma, or certification in international trade, logistics, supply chain, or a related field.
3-5 years of experience in international trade compliance, customs, or a related regulatory role within the manufacturing sector.
Strong working knowledge of CUSMA, HS coding, RVC calculation methods, and customs regulations across multiple international regions.
Experience managing import and trade documentation from global suppliers and manufacturers.
Familiarity with cross-border shipping processes, tariff classifications, and customs clearance for both North American and other key international markets.
