Role Summary Company: Activa Job Title: Cost Accounting Manager Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent Reports To: Financial Controller Location: Waterloo, Ontario The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for ensuring the completeness, accuracy and reporting of inventory, revenue, and cost of sales data according to company policy. This will entail working with Operations and Finance to understand both budget and cost data to provide reliable information for reporting and decision-making. This work requires an in-depth understanding of Activa\xe2\x80\x99s ERP as it relates to the recording of inventory transactions, allocating inventory costs, and valuing inventory. Advanced analytical skills, and strong numerical skills are necessary and a proficient understanding of and experience with Microsoft Excel is required.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, motivate and coach the cost accountant.
Ensure the proper management of hierarchy elements, lots, cost categories, and descriptive attributes within HB1 (Dynamics 365 add-on).
Coordinate with Operations to ensure inventory status, acreage, and movement is in line with production
Review closing journal entries and associated reporting
Oversee and maintain the allocation process for budgets and actuals
Review inventory allocations and associated journal entries, reconciliations and reports for completeness and accuracy
Assist Finance with reporting, reconciliations, and process adjustments as it relates to project reviews
Maintain fair market values on Hierarchy Elements and Lots according to company policy
Monitor and report on inventory book value and fair market values to ensure compliance with company policies
Monitor and report on project gross margin and cost to complete balances
Review project postings to ensure accuracy and recommend corrections
Review system closing procedures on completed lots and prepare Transfer Price entries
Oversee the preparation of inventory, sales and gross margin reporting
Manage month-end procedures relating to sales, inventory, and budget allocation entries and accruals
Participate in ad-hoc analyses and process improvement projects
In conjunction with IST and Operations, perform testing on system updates as required
Assist the Financial Controller with the daily leadership of the Accounting Department
Other responsibilities within the scope and spirit of the role
Requirements
CPA designation
3+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience applying accounting policy/theory in an Accounting related role
Proficient in Microsoft Office with a particularly strong aptitude in MS Excel
Experience in Microsoft Dynamics 365: Operations & Finance an asset
Demonstrated strong analytical skills
Excellent written, verbal and time management skills
Above average ability to work on numerous projects/tasks simultaneously and prioritize effectively
Proven ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure
