The Corporate Accountant, Build-to-Rent will perform a variety of accounting and analytical functions with a strong focus on financial and tax reporting for multiple US entities. This position works closely with other team members to provide timely and accurate management reporting and financial results. The ideal candidate for this role will have an accounting background with strong attention to detail and familiarity with various reporting standards.
BUILD-TO-RENT DIVISION
The Build-to-Rent venture sources land opportunities, develops and builds or acquires dedicated build-to-rent single family housing communities in the United States.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain accounting records for the entities in the Build-to-Rent division
Internal and external quarterly financial reporting of Build-to-Rent's consolidated results
Preparation of annual financial statements under IFRS and ASPEith notes and supporting backup for the auditors
Perform project/investment property and financial statement analysis as required
Analyzing and recording transactions that are booked by journal entries, namely, capital calls, acquisition and loan closings, etc.
Assistance in the preparation of cash call notices to partners
Assistance in the preparation of monthly bank draws
Quarterly and annual covenant reporting to the various banks
Liaise with external tax consultants on corporate and partnership tax filings for a series of entities, primarily US compliance reporting
Additional reports and responsibilities as required
COMMUNICATION / INFLUENCING OTHERS
This position requires both written and verbal communication skills to communicate with both internal (other departments) and external (investment partners, external auditors and vendors) stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
CPA designation or in final stages of completion
3+ years' experience in accounting, financial reporting and analysis
Understanding of accounting and reporting for the real estate industry an asset
Working knowledge of corporate and partnership taxation
Intermediate/Advanced MS Office skills with experience in working with and manipulating large data sets
Experience in MS Navision or other accounting application
Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
Strong financial, analytical and problem-solving skills
Achievement oriented; must be able to juggle multiple tasks, tight deadlines and changing priorities
Self- starter who takes initiative
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
Office environment - sitting/working at desk/computer in a shared office space and/or remote working from home
Working hours during the day Monday to Friday and overtime time as required to meet deadlines
Work under pressure in a fast-paced environment is critical to success in this role
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sitting at computer 90% of the time
Manual dexterity is needed to operate a keyboard and mouse
