This is administrative and supervisory work in planning, coordinating and directing the development and implementation of all public festivals and special events for the City of Burnaby in partnership with community, municipal and corporate stakeholders. An incumbent will plan, evaluate and coordinate the development and implementation of all special events and festivals; completes and reviews request for proposals, contracts and agreements; leads and facilitates large and complex events. A Coordinator will part take in assigning, supervising, and evaluating the work of staff, contractors and volunteers; recruit and hire subordinates, provides training and on the job coaching; provides feedback and assistance and discusses any necessary corrective action with staff. Other responsibilities include participating in annual and long-range planning and prepares budget estimates; oversees the promotion of festivals and events and the preparation of promotional materials along with liaising with the media to arrange publicity and facilitates interviews; works to coordinate special event fundraising and sponsorships and grant program. Coordinates the implementation of event policies and procedures; prepares and maintains a variety of reports, statistics, records, correspondence and other materials. Performs related work as required.
Qualification includes completion of a university degree in arts, cultural administration or a related discipline, plus considerable event management and supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of the methods, practices, procedures, techniques, materials and resources related to the work performed; knowledge of the cultural needs and interests of the community served, the interests and functions of community groups and agencies. Sound knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures involved in preparing and monitoring event budgets and contracts; to identify potential overruns and recommend resolution, and to coordinate fundraising for events. An incumbent will have the ability to provide oversight, planning and direction of all city led special events and festivals; establish and maintain effective liaison and working relationships with a variety of internal and external contacts; ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally with a diverse group of individuals and to exercise independent judgement, initiative, tact and diplomacy in the work.
This is a temporary full time position until December 31, 2023.
