Who We Are

The Urban Studies Program hosts one of the larger graduate programs in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and is co-developing an undergraduate Major in Urban Worlds. Located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, our faculty and students explore the many different ways to make cities better. We use our neighbourhood, city, and region as living laboratories and pursue community engagement through collaborative projects and innovative partnerships. Our alumni range from former Mayors to developers, with planners and activists in between.

About the Role

The Coordinator, Communications and Events is responsible for the Unit\'s communications activities and events related to the Unit and its community engagement activities and programs. Coordinates the marketing, administration, design, delivery and evaluation of communication strategies and methods related to outreach activities while establishing and maintaining working relationships with a wide variety of international and external stakeholders.

They must have strong planning and priority-setting abilities, be a clear and effective communicator, work well in a team environment, be student-focused, and be comfortable with diverse colleagues who pursue different work styles and priorities. Qualifications

Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree, preferably in Social Sciences, Communications, Business or Humanities and four years of related experience including experience in writing, communications, event planning, program development, external relations management, budget management, event management, marketing and communication, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Advanced Social media skills and experience with communication software such as Campaigner and Event.
  • Proficient in the use of word processing, spreadsheet, database and online and multimedia technologies including standard information systems and contact management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, establish priorities, meet deadlines, and work on multiple initiatives concurrently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of academic work environments.
