Who We Are
's mission is to protect and defend the legal, social, and economic rights of migrants (asylum seekers, refugees, immigrants, and those with undetermined status) from lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer (LGBTQIA+) communities. We offer support services, group and social activities, and education and public awareness.
We apply an anti-oppressive, non-judgmental and person-centred approach, and are committed to ensuring that LGBTQIA+ migrants and refugees are at the center of our work and decision-making. AGIR is a team of 11 staff members.
Where We Are
AGIR is located in Tio'tia:ke (colonially known as Montreal) on the unceded territory of the Kanien'keha:ka. Our offices are located in the borough of Parc-Extension.
The
Activities Coordinator
plays a key role in ensuring and creating a
welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment
for LGBTQIA+ migrants and refugees. This person will lead the
activities team
and collaborate with all AGIR members and the broader community.
Core Responsibilities:
Planning of Social, Educational, and Community Activities Throughout the Year, Including:
Ensuring
logistics
: venue booking, materials, guest speakers, registrations, interpretation, and safety.
Developing mobilization strategies
and ensuring participant engagement.
Evaluating participation
and collecting feedback to improve activities.
Consulting with the support team
and relevant committees to align activities with members' needs.
Establishing and maintaining partnerships
with other organizations for joint activities.
Ensuring
clear, inclusive, and compassionate communication
with community partners and participants.
Aligning activities with participants' needs and desires
, in collaboration with the support services team.
Attending to all activities planned.
Oversee the Activities Team:
Ensuring
compliance with the collective agreement
and managing schedules, timesheets, and employee availability.
Supporting with
onboarding and training
for new employees and making
probation period decisions
.
With the support of the Executive Director, conduct
regular and annual evaluations
, providing
ongoing feedback
, and addressing issues.
Supporting the team in conflict resolution
as needed.
Organizing
regular meetings
with the activities team.
Participating in the organization of specific activities
as needed.
Coordinate staff and volunteers during activities and events
Participation in Leadership and Service Coordination at AGIR
Adjust and align activities with AGIR's strategic directions.
Develop and maintain partnerships, including:
Community partnerships related to activities.
Financial and organizational partnerships.
Collaborate with the leadership team to prepare reports for funders, including:
Written reports.
Data collection and analysis.
Manage and oversee activity budgets, tracking expenses and assessing financial needs in collaboration with the co-direction.
Ensure alignment between programs and special projects to guarantee their success.
Participation in AGIR's Organizational Life
Attend team meetings, staff retreats, strategic discussions, and other meetings.
Contribute to collective discussions on the organization's development.
Participate in internal committees and special projects.
Engage in ongoing reflection on anti-oppression principles and AGIR's values.
Working Conditions
Full-time (30 hours/week). Occasional evening and weekend work would be required with notice.
Remote/In Person:
Hybrid (in-person and remote work as needed)

26.50 p/h

QualificationsRequired
Experience:
At least
2 years in project, budget management, or community-building roles
, preferably in a non-profit or grassroots setting.
Languages:
Proficiency in either
French or English
is required, along with a basic understanding of other languages. Arabic and/or Spanish are particular assets, and any additional language is highly useful.
Values alignment:
A deep commitment to harm reduction, informed consent, and community empowerment.
Adhere to intercultural, intersectional, anti-oppressive, trans-affirmative and trauma-informed approaches;
Adhere to the principles of informed consent, harm reduction and empowerment
Ability to establish friendly and warm connections while communicating your boundaries clearly and maintaining a sense of ethics;
Ability to pay attention to emotional triggers and signs of personal burnout. Ability to communicate about these needs to implement personal and collective care strategies.
Non-judgmental attitude, for example, towards migrants with precarious status (including non-status individuals), people of colour/who are racialized, women, sexual and gender minorities (including trans people), mental health, drug use and sex work;

Desire to work in a collaborative, community-based environment where clear and kind communication is important

Accessibility Information
AGIR works out of an office in Parc-Extension. All positions are required to be in office for some portion of the week, and some positions always. AGIR's office is only accessible by a staircase.
AGIR staff often work from home. We require our employees to have access to an adequate internet connection and a private workspace where they are able to participate in video conferencing, due to the confidential nature of our work. For staff working from home, AGIR will provide a computer and a work cellphone.
