Develops menu plans, prepares meals, and oversees the operation of the eating and cooking facilities.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
1. Develops a breakfast, lunch and dinner menu plan in accordance with accepted nutritional guidelines such as Canada's Food Guide for Healthy Eating and the individual dietary needs of the clients.
2. Shops for, prepares, cooks and serves meals and snacks, including those for special dietary needs and special occasions, in accordance with safety and health standards, the menu plan, and in consultation with dietician
3. Prepares make-ahead, healthy meals for the weekend staff to serve.
4. Ensures minimal use of staff time for purchasing or preparing meals.
5. Stores food items in accordance with regulations.
6. Oversees the operation of the eating and cooking facilities and equipment and ensures their cleanliness and maintenance.
7. Reviews the meal preparation needs of the organization. Purchases equipment to meet those needs within approved budget limits.
8. Maintains an inventory of food, creates shopping lists.
9. Maintains an inventory of all related equipment.
10. Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of meals. Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limits.
11. Gathers information on children/youth dietary needs, preferences and restrictions
12. Maintains all required documentation.
13. Recognizes, analyzes and responds to potential emergency situations and escalations related to clients' aggressive behaviour. Ensures safety of clients/staff by providing de-escalation and crisis intervention as required.
14. Performs other related duties as required.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Grade 10, plus graduation from a program in institutional or residential quantity cooking.
MINIMUM TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS:
1. One (1) year recent related experience. Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
2. Valid, unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver's License
3. Suitable personal driving record and driver factor report
