Lotus Terminals is searching for a Controller to join its leadership team.Lotus Terminals Ltd. is a family-owned and operated asset-based freight and transportation enterprise in Surrey, BC. Established in 1980, from humble beginnings, Lotus Terminals has grown to a team of experienced and caring professionals. The team works out of a state-of-the-art custom-built 10-acre facility that features various freight handling equipment with heavy weight capacities, overhead cranes, laydown areas, reefer plugs, a government-certified 80' platform scale and even features an impressive onsite gym. Lotus Terminals strives to be its customer's go to source for complete freight management solutions specializing in significant freight moves and storage.Reporting to the CEO, the Controller is a new position in the team and will be an integral part of the continued growth and strategy of the organization. The Controller will be responsible for managing the overall financial accounting operations of the organization. This role allows someone to develop their department and get full ownership and responsibilities of the team and finances. This person will be comfortable getting their hands dirty, improving processes, implementing technology, managing the team, and overseeing and managing financial reporting, budgets, statements, and other pertinent financial activities.Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day accounting practices
• Develop, mentor, and manage a growing accounting team
• Provide strategic leadership and direction in all aspects of the accounting operations
• Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen internal controls and manage risk
• Provide leadership to the organization and support the culture of developing and supporting other team members
• Leverage and improve existing processes to develop the company's financial tools and reports
• Implement and develop new processes, cost savings strategies or monetary bonus plans for the organization
• Oversee and manage the financial reporting, budgets, tax and financial statements, and other pertinent financial activities
• Ensure business risks are appropriately communicated and monitored
• Prepare and maintain financial metrics
• Analyze and advise on revenue, expenses, and balance sheet items
• Cash flow management and forecasts
• Prepare monthly/annual financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
• Prepare quarterly and annual GST statements.
• Monitor and analyze monthly operating results against forecast/budget

Skill and Qualifications

• Post-secondary education with a minimum of three to five years of financial management experience
• Experience leading a team of accounting professionals
• CPA designation is an asset
• Ability to recognize and communicate efficiency opportunities and implement new processes
• Advanced analytical, interpersonal and communication skills
• Experience within the transportation and logistics industry as an asset
• Strong understanding of accounting software systems and proficiency with all Microsoft products
• Excellent understanding of financial management. cost accounting, accounting principles and internal controls
• Improvement oriented and focused on identifying business operating efficiencies

Education:

• Bachelor's Degree (preferred)

Experience:

• Financial Accounting: 3 years (preferred)
