Controller / Accountant
to join our accounting team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of financial transactions, managing accounting records, and supporting the overall financial operations of the dealership. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple financial tasks efficiently within a fast-paced dealership environment.
Key Responsibilities
:
Financial Reporting
:
Prepare and present timely and accurate financial reports (balance sheets, profit and loss statements, cash flow statements, etc.).
Ensure accurate and compliant reporting as per company policies and applicable regulations.
Provide financial analysis and variance reports to senior management to support decision-making.
Budgeting & Forecasting
:
Assist in the preparation and management of annual budgets and forecasts.
Monitor monthly financial performance, comparing actual results to budgeted figures and identifying variances.
Work closely with departments to provide budget support and recommendations.
General Ledger Management
:
Oversee the general ledger and ensure all entries are recorded accurately.
Reconcile general ledger accounts and resolve any discrepancies.
Ensure that all financial transactions comply with established accounting principles and policies.
Cash Flow Management
:
Manage company cash flow by tracking accounts payable and receivable.
Monitor bank accounts, credit facilities, and cash transactions to ensure sufficient liquidity.
Ensure timely payments to vendors and proper invoicing to customers.
Internal Controls
:
Develop, implement, and monitor internal control procedures to safeguard company assets.
Review and ensure adherence to internal control policies related to financial processes.
Ensure proper documentation and verification for all financial transactions.
Payroll & Benefits
:
Oversee payroll processing for all employees.
Manage benefits, taxes, and deductions in compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
Coordinate with HR to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
Audit & Compliance
:
Prepare for and assist with internal and external audits.
Ensure compliance with applicable tax regulations, including GST, PST, and corporate income tax.
Monitor compliance with accounting standards and industry regulations.
Tax Reporting & Filing
:
Ensure timely preparation and filing of federal and provincial tax returns.
Manage the remittance of taxes for the business.
Work with external tax advisors to ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Skills and Qualifications
:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA designation preferred).
5+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 3 years in a managerial role. Dealership and retail experience will be an added advantage.
Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
Experience with dealership operations and automotive industry financials is an asset.
Proficient in accounting software (Lightspeed, QuickBooks, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate complex financial information to Management.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
