Position: Controller Location: Whitehorse, YT Department: Finance Reports to: General Manager Wages: DOE Job Summary The Controller will oversee the daily operations of the Company\xe2\x80\x99s accounts through account design, implementation, maintenance, and management. This position will oversee the daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliation of all business accounts and manage a small team. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review and completion of Bank Transfers- external and internal documents
  • Review and completion of all monthly Taxes \xe2\x80\x93 YTG, Excise, Carbon & GST
  • Review and completion of all quarterly Taxes \xe2\x80\x93 YTG, Carbon, and IFTA
  • Summarizing and reconciling accounts for completion of an annual assurance engagement
  • Operate computers programmed with accounting software to record, store and analyze information.
  • Entry, review, and completion of data entry to ensure North 60 is operating under ASPE for financial statement presentation.
  • Check numbers, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper allocations.
  • Contribute to improved decision-making and drive operational improvement by
    identifying trends and conducting financial analyses across all activities.
  • Manage, support, and train a team with the intention of streamlining processes
    and achieving greater consistency across the finance department.
  • Classify, record, summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using journals and ledgers or computers.
  • Work with General Manager and team to create and adhere to common practices and
    standardization to develop best practices.
  • Prepare monthly reports to reconcile inventory at all stations, bulk plants and satellite offices.
  • Prepare monthly reports for presentation to management and stakeholders.
  • Review of financial statements and working papers on a monthly basis to ensure financial accuracy
  • Manage the administration team to ensure that daily, weekly and monthly tasks are completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Manage and address financial issues and concerns and provide communication to stakeholders to ensure an efficient exchange of information.
  • Maintain and enforce appropriate internal controls for financial and operational processes.
Relationships: This position works with all departments including office, Highways divisions and satellite offices. Must be able to work independently and with a team. This position also requires a relationship with corporate head office in Anchorage, Alaska and to work with the CFO in Anchorage. Problem Solving: This position requires a lot of independent management and problem solving. The incumbent will from time to time face complex problems demanding solutions that will need to be creative. Authority: This position demonstrates some independent authority but requires the approval of the General Manager or ownership for final say. Physical Requirements:

Ability to read and correspond with employees, customers and vendors. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from employees, customers, or service providers. Ability to write and effectively communicate utilizing e-mail. Ability to communicate effectively with all employees, customers and vendors to facilitate problem resolutions.
  • Physical Demands
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time and participate in active physical duties. Must be able to operate company vehicles. Must be able to use computer, telephone and other general office equipment.
  • Work Environment
The performance of this position requires exposure to industrial areas which requires the use of personal protective equipment such as appropriate foot wear, safety glasses, mandatory hearing protection. Industrial areas include hazardous chemicals, fumes, and petroleum by-products. For the most part, exposure is ambient room temperatures, lighting and traditional office equipment as found in a typical office environment. Employment Requirements
  • Three (3) years management experience in a service company preferred.
  • Strong proven leadership and communications skills.
  • Ability to handle and manage workforce stress while maintaining levels of productivity.
  • Position is required to come to the office everyday (No Remote).
  • Possess a CPA accounting designation.
  • Working knowledge of Sage 100.
  • Advanced working knowledge of MS Excel.
  • Working knowledge of MS power BI (considered an asset, not mandatory).
  • SAP Concur (considered an asset, not mandatory).
  • Flexible, adaptable and willing to accept new challenges.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
Additional Information Experience in the Petroleum industry is an asset. Must be a Canadian citizen. Must live in Yukon Territory No relocation benefits offered at this time, candidates from "Out of Territory" will need to relocate at their own expense. Must have a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s License.
