The Opportunity:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Contracts Specialist to become a vital part of the Conventional & Thermal Contracts team at Canadian Natural Resources Limited (CNRL), one of Canada\'s leading energy producers. To excel in this role, you\'ll leverage your knowledge of contracts in the drilling and completions field. A contracts specialist in this domain plays a vital role in managing and negotiating contracts with suppliers, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, and mitigating risks associated with drilling and completions operations. You\'ll utilize your expertise to analyze complex contractual terms, drive strategic sourcing initiatives, and optimize supplier relationships to maximize operational efficiency and project outcomes.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaboration with the Business Areas to understand their requirements and develop commercially competitive contracting and procurement strategies for a combination of good and services
  • Focus efforts on the consolidation of requirements and contracts across the organization to optimize spend
  • Manage the end-to-end contracting life-cycle from Request for Proposal (RFP) through to award and then post award contract management
  • Negotiate and award agreements and contracts to contractors and /or suppliers to ensure services and materials are provided to Canadian Natural in the most cost effective and proficient manner possible
  • Conduct market research and analysis; build and maintain strong network in the market; be fully aware of supplier developments and opportunities coming up in the market
  • Proactively identify and understand commercial/procurement needs from internal stakeholders and collaboratively propose competitive solutions. This may involve constructively challenging the Business Demand and/or Procurement Practices in order to drive value and efficiency for the organization
  • Liaise with legal, risk, finance, accounting, internal client business area and other stakeholders to ensure that agreement and contract terms address all related requirements and policies
  • Prepare, administer and close out contracts, including change orders and amendments as required

  • Job location: Calgary, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 5x2 \xe2\x80\x93 Monday to Friday, 8 hours/day
  • Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural\xe2\x80\x99s relocation policy

Skills & Qualifications:
  • 10+ years of supply management / supply chain experience with 5+ years experience in contract management experience
  • Completion of a university degree or related post-secondary education
  • Familiarity with and understanding of:
  • Category Management
  • Contract formation and contract administration
  • Internal customer service:
  • Understanding requirements, explaining processes, developing buy-in
  • Developing clear and complete scopes of work
  • Develop effective negotiation strategy
  • Developing Request for Proposals for variety of services and materials
  • Carrying out analytical evaluation of proposals, commercial negotiations and negotiate legal terms and conditions
  • Desire to pursue or completion of a Supply Chain Management Professional designation is considered an asset
  • Experience with computer contract management systems and/or enterprise systems
