Position Overview

The Continuous Improvement Cement Technician has the authority and is fully accountable for the successful execution of the responsibilities listed in this position description in accordance with CRH Canada policies and procedures and as limited by the H&S Manager and dotted line with the Production Manager and Optimisation Manager.
This role pays $25.00/hr NOC Code 2233
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


A. Assistance to Production and Optimisation Departments

  • Assistance to production or Optimisation to analyze operations of the Plant and make recommendations for process improvement including Cost/Benefit Analysis
  • Assistance to production to prepare computer reports on the process of operating efficiencies and failure investigation tests
  • Assistance to Optimisation Department to perform tests on operating plant systems to determine the efficiencies of the equipment and audit
  • Assistance to develop technical instructions for operating personnel and ensure proper communication for the four shifts
  • Assistance to management in maintaining the Plant within safety, environmental and quality performance regulations
  • Assistance to develop operational procedures


B. Health and Safety – Continuous Improvement Hole watch

  • Hole watch is part of the work associated with confined space work, such as work inside storage tanks or tight spaces between two bulkheads. The team member on hole watch maintains communication with the personnel in the confined space, or hole. In case of an emergency, the worker on hole watch maintains situational awareness and raises the alarm about the emergency. For example, if weather conditions deteriorate and pose a hazard, the worker on hole watch can advise personnel in the hole and assist them in leaving the confined space.
  • Ensure compliance under legislation and Corporate requirements
  • Know the hazards that may be faced during the entry, as well as the effects of those hazards
  • Monitor conditions inside and outside of the space
  • Call for the evacuation of the space in the event of an emergency or the detection of a prohibited condition
  • Personnel involved in hole watch duties are entrusted with the safety of those who enter confined spaces. They must understand the hazards associated with confined space entry, be able to communicate effectively, recognize aberrant behaviors in the personnel in the confined space that may result from the hazards associated with the space and act appropriately in an emergency.

Qualifications

Education/Experience
  • Currently in last years of University Degree in Chemical, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

Knowledge/Skills Required
  • Occupational Health and Safety knowledge
  • Proficient computer skills, specifically with applications such as SAP, MS Office, TIS
  • Ability to work in an outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise

Physical Requirements
Job has a lot of variety and is not routine. Cement techs will be required to work outside, at heights, warm temperatures, and at times around and over water, in dusty environments and confined spaces. Position will be predominantly day shift, but incumbent will be required to work shifts or weekends as necessary.
Ideal candidates would have a high mechanical/chemical engineering background, ability to work in a team-based environment and excellent mechanical knowledge, and experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment.

Work Environment

  • This position is based across the plant.
