Purpose:
In Advancing the Division of Students\' vision as partners in student success, The Division of Students provides services, programs and facilities that foster academic success, student development and community engagement. Supporting the Division, the Communications & Marketing Team creates strategic, timely, targeted and engaging student-centric communications. Reporting to the Manager, Communications & Marketing, the Content Specialist plays a role in achieving the Division of Student\'s communications and marketing objectives through exceptional content creation and a broad range of related communications activities. Functioning both collaboratively and independently, this dynamic and proactive role helps to support the Division of Students\' strategic goals by increasing awareness, promoting our student-centric services and resources, and positively enhancing the reputation of the Division of Students by increasing visibility and recognition among key stakeholder groups in all communications.The main purpose of this job is to create content (text, images, graphics etc.) with the focus being writing and editing for primarily digital media (some print) to support communication initiatives for the Division of Students. The position is responsible for compelling storytelling to engage a variety of demographics. Initiatives are varied and include communication to students in Canada and around the world, parents and supporters, counsellors, teachers and staff within the Division to engage, educate and inform. Content needs include promotional activities and events with an emphasis on marketing York University to students across all stages of their educational journey (recruitment, conversion, transition, retention and graduation.This position also works as a member of the team to incorporate digital content (e.g. infographics, social media, video clips, graphic images, photos etc.) into the Division of Students communications projects (websites, presentations, events, e-communications etc.).

Education:
University degree in Communications, Marketing, Publishing, English or a related field with an emphasis on written communication, or equivalent qualification or an equivalent of 4 years recent experience (defined as within the last five years) working at York University and performing the same or similar tasks. This education equivalency is in addition to the experiential requirements outlined below.

Experience:
3 years\' recent related experience researching, writing and editing copy and creating content across a range of media, including print, social and digital media (e.g. email, website, online ads). Knowledge base within the specialized field of communications pertaining to rules, procedures (e.g. print or digital production) and methods.

Skills:
Excellent writing, proofreading, editing, research and grammatical skills. Experience producing content across a range of media, including social media, print and digital formats. Excellent written and oral communication skills to elicit accurate information, conduct interviews with students, professors and the larger community. Excellent research and analysis skills to facilitate the measurement, interpretation and presentation of information/data. Demonstrated success coordinating cross-functional groups and providing conditions for service excellence for stakeholders. Demonstrated good judgement, initiative and creative problem-solving skills to a team environment. Excellent organizational skills including the ability to work independently, meet deadlines, co-ordinate a number of projects/programs simultaneously in response to changing/conflicting priorities. Attention to detail and ability to work effectively under pressure of high volume. Basic understanding of search engine optimization (SEO), content categorization and structure, content development, distribution across multiple channels and measurement. Conducts self with tact and diplomacy when dealing with a wide variety of contacts and maintains confidentiality. Intermediate experience with content creation methods and best practices for varying channels (print, multimedia, infographics, web, email, blogs, social media).Personal and professional use of social media platforms including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, blogging software, Google+, LinkedIn, Flickr, Snapchat and Instagram. Intermediate to advanced skill working with MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, Acrobat and Bridge). Intermediate to advanced skill with web search/navigation tools for research, content management systems (CMS) customer relations management systems (CRM).
