Job Summary

As part of the Enterprise Data Office team, the Consultant, Metadata Management (\xe2\x80\x9cMtM\xe2\x80\x9d) role is responsible for discovery and understanding of relevant information such as Business,Technical and Operational metadata, and for correctly establishing and maintaining business, technical and operational metadata within an organization, ensuring that metadata is properly created, stored and maintained so that inconsistencies and redundancies are minimized. The activities include working & publishing data definitions in Apotex\'s Business Glossary, maintaining data classifications, maintaining data archival/retention guidelines (i.e. lifecycle management), and maintaining Apotex\'s data inventory.

This role will be a significant contrinutor to the full implementation of Apotex\'s data managment practices. In conjunction with business leaders, develops and makes recommendations around, and ensures the implementation of, consistent and harmonized policies, procedures and professional standards of performance for the Enterprise MtM program.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for making recommendations about the design, development and operationalization all policies, processes, procedures, standards and technology solutions used to correctly define, integrate, manage and share reliable metadata within Apotex.
  • Recommends and implements business metadata which includes Data Dictionary: business terms and definitions, business rules & constraints
  • Recommends and implements technical metadata which includes establishing data lineage and source to target mapping.
  • Is responsible for establishing a well-modelled operational metadataand creating an execution schedule, escalation process and statistics: load start, end, duration, record count, error count for all data objects.
  • Accountable for providing metadata support through the standardization of terminology and updating of system records (EDC, Axon).
  • Formulates, collaborates, and follows-up with GIS (and vendors as necessary) to implement metadata requirements in systems, or to communicate the requirements correctly to third parties.
  • Is accountable for providing training on any new metadata artifact templates and standards.
  • Acts as specialized resource for metadata integration with GIS, business systems analysts and application development teams.
  • Single point of contact for metadata entry and downloads and any Metadata Repository issues. Works closely with Informatica system analyst to ensure MtM processes get implemented into the tool.
  • Makes recommendations on creating a data retention policy and proper maintenance along with metadata repository design and its development efforts.
  • Is responsible for testing new metadata processes, workflows, and procedures, providing related support and user training to data stewards and business users as required.

Job Requirements
  • Education
  • Bachelor\'s degree or higher in Business or Technology
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Strong business understanding of data & metadata
  • Familiar with Metadata Management methodologies and practices
  • Ability to work with business resources to develop business processes relating to metadata
  • Working knowledge of practices and technology in areas such as Business Intelligence, data models, business glossary, and master data domain management
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to present in front of senior management, and both small and large audiences
  • Ability to resolve conflicts and build consensus
  • Experience
  • Hands-on working experience with Data Governance, Data Catalog and Metadata Management
  • Background & experience working with data taxonomies & ontologies
  • Practical experience with EDC and Axon (Informatica), including business glossaries, dashboards, policies, search, maps.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and organizational skills
