The Indigenous Excellence Division of Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning is seeking a qualified individual to fill the position of Consultant, Indigenous Languages (CRC) located in Winnipeg.

Conditions of Employment:
Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Must have or be eligible for a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate
Must be able to travel throughout the province of Manitoba
Must possess and maintain a valid Full Stage Manitoba Class 5 Drivers Licence
Must be able to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search
Must be able to provide a satisfactory Child Abuse Registry Check
Qualifications:
Essential:
Bachelor of Education or other relevant Bachelor's Degree (Indigenous Languages, etc.) and significant experience working with Indigenous languages
Knowledge of and experience with second language learning and pedagogy
Experience in project management
Extensive knowledge and experiences with Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing
Strong verbal communication skills including experience presenting complex ideas and issues to multiple audiences
Strong writing skills demonstrating a broad range and high quality of writing for publication in presentations, print documents and website
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to independently manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships within the organization and with Indigenous languages speakers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers and other external stakeholders
Desired: Working knowledge / fluency in an Indigenous language, both written and oral
Demonstrated experience in language learning or delivering culture-based teaching in an Indigenous language
Duties:
The Anti-Racism and Equity Unit provides system leadership in policy development and program focused on anti-racism and equity initiatives within the department and across Manitoba School divisions. Reporting to the Coordinator, the Indigenous Languages Consultant leads and supports the development and implementation of an Indigenous Languages Strategy for Manitoba Education and Early Childhood Learning with a focus on creating fluent second language speakers. They will lead the development of priority projects and initiatives of the department specific to Indigenous languages, working collaboratively with senior management and program leads. The Consultant undertakes research and analysis to support strategic planning, policy and program initiatives, provides oversight of departmental process, and provides advice and guidance (both oral and written) derived from the research and analysis. The position represents the unit/branch/division/department on committees and at meetings, as directed, that are within the mandate of the Department, division and branch.
