The Indigenous Languages program at University of Winnipeg provides learning opportunities in Indigenous languages, Indigenous language teaching methods, and Indigenous language reclamation. The program seeks to be community-partnered, responsive to Indigenous communities' needs and desires, and to offer programming that is relevant and accessible to individuals living in First Nations, Metis, and Inuit communities who wish to pursue Indigenous language teaching and reclamation. The program also works with Indigenous organizations, school divisions, First Nations and provincial government to support their goals of increasing Indigenous language teaching capacity.
The Project Coordinator - Indigenous Languages is a full-time continuing position tasked with supporting the growth of this program through contributor/stakeholder liaison, program planning, monitoring and evaluation, fundraising, and administrative support.
Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with instructors, Indigenous communities, Indigenous organizations, school division and Department of Education staff, K-2 school staff, contractors, University administration, University committees, and other staff as required.
  • Identify key contacts in Indigenous communities and organizations and ensure timely knowledge mobilization between them and the University.
  • Coordinate with the communications department on communications strategies and materials.
  • Communicate with past, present, and future course participants.
  • Prepare project work plans and schedules and obtain management approval.
  • Act as a coordinator and recording secretary for meetings/discussions as required for the planning and delivery of the Indigenous Languages program.
  • Support faculty and instructors in the completion and submission of program documents, including curriculum submissions.
  • Work with participants, instructors, and staff to develop and implement evaluation tools for the Indigenous Language program offerings.
  • Write planning and evaluation reports.
  • Create and implement fundraising strategy including identifying donors, writing grant proposals and report.
  • Manage and administer program budget, including receiving and invoicing and preparing budget reports.
  • Hire contractors and academic support staff as required for program delivery.
  • Organize special events.
  • Support current students and partners.
Qualifications:
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree or equivalent training and experience
  • Four years directly related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with fundraising/grant writing, program development, project management or event coordination.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and communities.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with a university environment (especially The University of Winnipeg) with the ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience; competence in clear, concise and tactful communication with senior management, clients, peers and staff.
  • Adaptability and flexibility including the ability to manage deadline pressure, ambiguity and change.
An equivalent combination of education, experience, skills, knowledge and abilities may be considered.

The salary range for this position will be from $45,973.20 to $63,372.40 annually.
Note: The work described in this posting will be conducted in-person, with an opportunity to apply for Remote Work for up to two (2) days per week.
