Project Coordinator

for the

Indigenous Entrepreneurship Pathways Project

, a transformative, micro-credential program that supports Indigenous adult learners and entrepreneurs across Alberta and beyond.


Reporting to the Office of the Vice-Provost (Indigenous Programming & Research), the

Project Coordinator

plays a critical role in ensuring this innovative program is rooted in respect, reciprocity, and relational accountability. The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping a learning environment that reflects the unique needs and aspirations of Indigenous entrepreneurs and communities, while supporting student success and well-being.


This role involves coordinating project development and delivery, facilitating engagement with Indigenous communities, supporting culturally grounded curriculum design, and helping to mobilize knowledge. The Coordinator will serve as a key liaison between the project team, Indigenous communities, and external stakeholders, facilitating engagement sessions, supporting Indigenous-led program design, and ensuring the program reflects Indigenous worldviews and values.


The Project Coordinator will:

Support Co-Development:

Work collaboratively with the Indigenous Advisory Circle and project team to co-develop culturally grounded learning outcomes, course modules, and delivery strategies that center Indigenous knowledge systems and entrepreneurship practices.

Coordinate Communications and Engagement:

Develop and implement a communications plan that includes updates to Indigenous communities and partners, as well as outreach to Indigenous adult learners across Alberta and Canada.

Facilitate Cultural Supports:

Support the facilitation of cultural practices and protocols within the project and during engagement sessions, ensuring a culturally safe and respectful environment for all participants.

Support Student Engagement and Success:

+ Support the development and coordination of student supports to foster a welcoming and supportive learning environment.
+ Help ensure access to technology and logistical supports for learners.
+ Assist with recruitment efforts that prioritize Indigenous learners' personal development and entrepreneurial goals.
+ Contribute to orientation, planning, and facilitating community-based celebration events.

Oversee Evaluation Planning

: Work with the project team to develop culturally appropriate evaluation strategies, including continuous feedback loops and reflective practices.

Champion Indigenous Data Sovereignty:

Uphold OCAP and CARE principles in the collection, use, and sharing of data related to the project, ensuring community control and self-determination.

S

upport Knowledge Mobilization:

Assist in the development and sharing of program outcomes and learnings, including preparing reports, presentations, and knowledge-sharing materials for Indigenous communities, funders, and the broader research community.

Duties



Project Coordination & Administration (50%)



Develop and maintain project charters, plans, and deliverables tracking tools. Facilitate project meetings, track decisions, and ensure timelines and milestones are met. Monitor project progress, proactively flag issues or risks, and provide solutions. Ensure adherence to

OCAP

and

CARE

principles in data management and knowledge sharing. Maintain documentation and file management in accordance with University of Alberta policies. Provide regular updates and reports to project leads and stakeholders.

Engagement & Relationship Management (25%)



Support the Indigenous Advisory Circle's co-development processes. Coordinate communications with Indigenous communities, entrepreneurs, and external partners. Work with the project team and advisors to co-develop culturally relevant course content. Acts as lead liaison to external suppliers, vendors, and subject matter experts - coordinating project activities, deliverables, and ensuring vendor/supplier work aligns with contracted scope of work.

Student Supports (10%)



Assist in creating a supportive and welcoming learning environment for Indigenous adult learners and instructors. Helps coordinate access to technology, logistical support, and culturally relevant student services. Contributes to student recruitment, including supporting/coordinating potential partners, orientation, and celebration events focused on community-building.

Instructional Design & Quality Assurance (10%)



Collaborate with instructors and Indigenous knowledge holders to ensure culturally aligned content. Coordinate the review and quality assurance of course materials. Support the onboarding of Indigenous instructors and guest speakers.

Communications & Knowledge Mobilization (5%)



Implement communication strategies including newsletters, social media, and community updates. Promote the micro-credential program to prospective learners and partners. Contribute to final reports, presentations, and community engagement events.

Qualifications




The ideal candidate will have:

An undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., Indigenous Studies, Business, Education, Project Management). A minimum of

four years' experience

in project coordination, preferably in Indigenous communities, organizations, or educational institutions. A strong understanding of

Indigenous worldviews, protocols

, and

data sovereignty principles

(OCAP, CARE). Experience working directly with Indigenous communities, organizations, and stakeholders. Familiarity with online learning environments and instructional design is an asset. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and project management tools (e.g., Smartsheet). Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal. Strong organizational, time management, and independent problem-solving abilities.
