Hillhurst Sunnyside Community Association is a vibrant, inclusive community centre offering community-based programming, childcare, sports and recreation facilities, and private hall rentals.
Position Description:
The Community Planning Coordinator is a part-time (10 hours/week) position. This position provides direct support to the Hillhurst Sunnyside Planning Committee (HSPC) of the HSCA Board. Primary support roles are: administration, communications, urban planning support and advocacy, and organizing meeting activities among stakeholders.
The successful applicant possesses both strong soft and hard skills and would be responsible for continuing to develop these skills throughout their time at HSCA. This position requires excellent communication skills including well-defined written skills, a good listening ear, and the ability to effectively communicate verbally to a variety of stakeholders with the ability to use both technical and plain language depending on the audience. The successful applicant is highly personable and can navigate challenging situations with a calm resolve while balancing the interests of multiple and sometimes conflicting stakeholders (members of the public, community associations, the development community, and the Ward 7 Councillor's Office).
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables:
Community Planning
Coordinate HSPC meetings and ensure meeting minutes are captured and made available to the Board of Directors
Support community members in providing feedback on applications including connecting them with external resources like the Federation of Calgary Communities
Support residents and subcommittees in moving their planning-related projects and initiatives forward
Stay apprised of City of Calgary policy initiatives and communicate to the HSPC
Support the HSCA Board of Directors, Executive Director, and HSPC on HSPC governance (as it relates to the HSPC Terms of Reference)
Work with the HSPC Executive Committee to set meeting agendas; facilitate meeting minutes, delegate tasks to subcommittee member reports and assist in providing item updates
Track committee membership and maintain membership list, members' contact information and subcommittee project teams
Share posts and website material as appropriate to HSCA Communications Coordinator for HSCA social media and HSCA website
When able, write articles related to community planning for the HSCA print and email newsletters
Other
Keep volunteer management & community planning knowledge and skills up to date
Other duties in collaboration with the HSPC Executive Committee, HSCA Executive Director, Community Programs Coordinators, Facilities, Communications, Rentals, and other staff

Qualifications:
Degree, diploma or certificate in a related field of study or commensurate experience
Demonstrated ability to manage challenging stakeholder relationships, including conflict resolution
Superior communication skills, both written and verbal
Experience with stakeholder engagement
iap2 certification or similar, an asset
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly Outlook and MS Teams
Experience working or volunteering in a community-based organization
Knowledge of urban planning processes
Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning is an asset
