Status: Full-Time - 35 hours per week


Location: Mississauga & Brampton (with local travel), In-person/On-site


Compensation: $28.00 per hour plus group health and RRSP benefits.

Position Summary:



Under the general guidance of the Supervisor - Child Welfare Programs and as a member of a multidisciplinary team, the incumbent plays a dual role by coordinating and implementing the joint SAATH and Multicultural Access to Social Supports Initiative (MASSI) between Indus Community Services and Peel Children's Aid Society (Peel CAS) to engage South Asian parents and families, ensuring programs and services are provided in a culturally responsive manner.

Responsibilities and Duties: (but not limited to)



Screen the appropriateness of parent mentoring volunteers to refer to the MASSI mentorship training.
Support mentors in helping parents reduce the isolation, by connecting them to community resources.
Provide cultural safety information/resources to individuals who may fear repercussions of having a baby.
Develop and facilitate community awareness and outreach workshops in the community about the MASSI project.
Provide periodic check-ins and touch bases with MASSI volunteer mentors.
In conjunction with Peel CAS:
Develop strong relationships with volunteer mentors and other community members to engage South Asian families interested in kinship, fostering, adoption or planning reunification.
As a SAATH South Asian Advisory Committee member, implement the culturally responsive collaborative wraparound service model.
Gather input from key stakeholders to inform modifications to the service model.
Act as a bridge between Peel CAS and South Asian children, youth and families in person and on the phone.
Attend in person alongside Peel CAS to conduct needs assessments and develop customized service plans.
Support children, youth and family's understanding of the role of Peel CAS.
Support Peel CAS staff in navigating cultural issues that may be relevant to why Peel CAS is working with the family.
Act as liaison to South Asian clients engaged with Peel CAS.
Plan, facilitate and coordinate the delivery of presentations and workshops.
Maintain accurate data and input into Caseworks database and ensure all statistical and narrative reports are completed within assigned timelines.
Participate in staff and team meetings, and professional development opportunities as required.
Perform other duties and assist with other areas within Family Services as required.

Qualifications and Skills:



Post-secondary degree in the human services field (social work, community work, child & youth studies, and human services) with three years of directly related work experience; or five years of directly related work experience.
Demonstrated project and community development skills and experience.
Comprehensive knowledge of and analysis in the area of child and youth issues.
Well-developed knowledge and sensitivity of settlement, social and cultural issues and barriers experienced by South Asian families.
Knowledge of services and systems in sectors such as income security, housing, crisis services (shelter and counseling and legal services), immigrant and settlement services, mental health and healthcare.
Knowledge of the criminal justice system, CAS other relevant legislations and resources/support services available to South Asian families in the community.
Demonstrated skills in client-centred case management service delivery, assessment and intervention, clinical writing, advocacy, conflict resolution techniques, mediation, anger management and non-violent crisis management.
A strong understanding of and an ability to work within an anti-racist/anti-oppression framework.
Ability to network & liaison with internal programs and external service providers & facilitate the development of partnerships.
Self-directed, self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to multitask while maintaining a high level of accuracy in data collection.
Solid interpersonal, administrative, organizational, problem-solving, decision-making, analytical and research skills
Demonstrated verbal & written English communication skills and a South Asian language e.g. Tamil, Gujrati, Hindi, Punjabi are required.
Demonstrated cross-cultural communication skills with strong group facilitation and presentation skills.
Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment and a strong understanding of inclusive and equitable service delivery.
Computer proficiency in an MS Office environment, e-mail, internet and experience using a database system
Valid Driver's License with reliable transportation is required.
Successful candidates must provide a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check prior to commencing employment.
