Job Description


\xc2\xb7 Conducting regular/routine preventative patrols and traffic stops throughout the County. \xc2\xb7 Enforcing any Provincial Statute for which enforcement authority has been granted by the Province. \xc2\xb7 Assisting in the inspection and enforcement of County Bylaws of a regulatory nature. \xc2\xb7 Adhering to guidelines as set out in County Policies, Bylaws, and Procedures \xc2\xb7 Cooperating with and assist other Community Peace Officers and Bylaw Enforcement Officers on a regular basis. \xc2\xb7 Fulfilling health & safety responsibilities as per legislation. \xc2\xb7 Protecting all confidential information. \xc2\xb7 When required, or at the request of the Director or designate, attending scenes where County owned vehicles or equipment have been involved in an accident and report their findings to the Supervisor. \xc2\xb7 When practicable, or at the request of the Director or designate, attending scenes where an accident has occurred on a County Road to assess road conditions and signage and report their findings to the Supervisor. \xc2\xb7 Maintaining a liaison with the RCMP and other agencies of a regulatory and enforcement nature and assist other law enforcement agencies when needed. \xc2\xb7 Maintaining certifications including, but not limited to, Pressure Point Control Tactics (PPCT), Dangerous Goods, Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) Spray, Radar, etc. \xc2\xb7 Promoting public safety/awareness and positive relationships with the community through public education and events when needed. \xc2\xb7 Providing advice and assistance to the public, especially the citizens of the County, relative to specific bylaw or statutory questions and when necessary, refer the matter to the proper authority. \xc2\xb7 Responding to and investigate complaints from County residents regarding County Bylaws and Provincial Statutes, as permitted by the Province. \xc2\xb7 Acting when it is deemed necessary to close any highway or establish detours when an unsafe condition or situation occurs. \xc2\xb7 When required, investigating hazardous or potentially unsafe highway conditions, and bring the matter to the attention of the department or person responsible for taking remedial action. \xc2\xb7 Maintaining Physical Fitness standards as deemed necessary by Management. \xc2\xb7 The completion of tasks as assigned through Council Meetings. \xc2\xb7 To update progress for the Council and Operational Plans on a minimum monthly basis (Cascade). \xc2\xb7 Assisting in the preparations of bylaws of a regulatory nature when directed. \xc2\xb7 Assisting the Supervisor with the development and effective implementation of the Department\'s Strategic Plan. \xc2\xb7 Assisting the Supervisor with long range planning and policy research. \xc2\xb7 Assisting the Crown Prosecutor and the County Prosecutor in the prosecution of County Matters. Working Conditions \xc2\xb7 Based on a shift schedule of 2,080 hours per year in a 24-day rotation (5 on 3 off, 4 on 4 off, 4 on 4 off) with both day and night shifts worked. Day shifts 0700h - 1730h and Night shifts from 1330h - 0000h. \xc2\xb7 Frequent exposure to seasonal and environmental conditions. \xc2\xb7 Extensive driving, occasional lifting, and periods of standing. \xc2\xb7 Must be available for overtime and work on weekends and holidays as required. Minimum Qualifications \xc2\xb7 Possess strong communication skills (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills. \xc2\xb7 Must be able to obtain and retain a RCMP issued Enhanced Reliability Security Clearance. \xc2\xb7 Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent supported by 5-year drivers abstract. Preferred Qualifications \xc2\xb7 Post-secondary degree, diploma, certificate, or Red Seal Trade of any type. \xc2\xb7 Has completed CPOIP or an approved equivalent. \xc2\xb7 Possess current PARE, APREP, COPAT, or POPAT test result. \xc2\xb7 Minimum 5 years experience (preferably rural operations) with a municipality in a Level 1 Community Peace Officer operational capacity or equivalent. \xc2\xb7 Possess a Class 1, 2, or 3 Alberta Operator\xe2\x80\x99s Licence or equivalent. \xc2\xb7 Experience and training in the enforcement of commercial vehicle weights and dimensions, transportation of dangerous goods, and CVSA inspector designation. \xc2\xb7 RADAR/LIDAR certified. \xc2\xb7 Certification in Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC). \xc2\xb7 Experience in difficult customer service roles. \xc2\xb7 Experience in law enforcement. \xc2\xb7 Experience with preparing and using Municipal Government Act orders to remedy issues. \xc2\xb7 Experience handling domestic animals.
