Our experienced and engaged workforce delivers a diverse range of services and programs that continue to help us set new milestones for quality of life.Position Overview: Reporting to the Senior Community Peace Officer / Municipal Enforcement Manager, the Community Peace Officer ensures compliance of municipal bylaws, the Traffic Safety Act, various provincial acts and legislation, as well as conducts patrols and investigates complaints ensuring accordance with Bylaws and Provincial Statutes. This position administers actions including regulated penalties to individuals or businesses, prepares case files for timely follow up including documents for court. This position provides a supportive role to other Town of Strathmore departments, RCMP, and outside agencies.Promoting positive public relations, public awareness and education are areas of focus. This position requires considerable confidentiality, attention to detail, and independent judgment.Key Responsibilities: Enforce Municipal Bylaws, Provincial Statutes, Acts and Regulations Respond and field investigations of complaints Conduct routine patrols Provide friendly and informative education to the public relating to Municipal Bylaws, Provincial Statutes, Acts and Regulations Attend calls for service under Responsible Animal Control Bylaw and other legislation including the rescue, trapping, and transportation and impound of domestic animals Collect and maintain evidence as required; liaise with internal and external parties in joint investigations Attend Court when necessary and ensure evidence and Court procedures are conducted to a professional standard Maintain vehicle and equipment as required Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as required within the scope of this position Assist other emergency services as required Display a high degree of confidentiality, professionalism, and diplomacy in a complex government and community office Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and as part of a team Establish strong and positive working relations with both internal and external stakeholders Comply with all safety policies and proceduresCompetencies and Behaviours: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clarify and convey information in a clear and concise manner Capable of maintaining professionalism during periods of stress and/or heavy workload and react with good judgement and diplomacy Ability to be discreet and keep all documentation and information strictly confidential Strong interpersonal and organizational skills Detail oriented, with the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines Demonstrated commitment to confidentiality, professionalism, maturity, and discretion Ability to relate professionally and courteously to co-workers, fellow law enforcement officers, and members of the public Ability to manage conflictRequired Education & Experience: Completion of a High School Diploma or equivalent Diploma in Law Enforcement, supplemented by 3 years previous experience in law enforcement Community Peace Officer Appointment or equivalent policing designation and experience Experience in a municipal government setting is a definite asset Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams)Qualifications: Ability to safely and properly operate a law enforcement vehicle and all related enforcement equipment with a valid Class 5 Driver's Licence Consent to disclosure of a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check Ability to acquire and maintain an RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance Valid First Aid, CPR & AED certification Current documentation with respect to traffic stop courses (EVOC) and the ability to maintain certifications Oleoresin Capsicum Aerosol Training, Expandable Baton Certification, or the ability to obtain Applicants must have successfully completed an approved Physical Abilities Requirement Evaluation (PARE), with a time of four minutes and forty-five seconds (4:45) or less, within the last six (6) calendar months as per the Peace Officer Program Eligibility to hold an appointment as a Community Peace Officer in Alberta Valid Alberta radar operator's certificate or the ability to obtain References from recent employers will be required as part of the recruitment process Must be willing to work outdoors in all conditionsHours: The work week is Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.Compensation: The Town of Strathmore total compensation package includes a competitive salary, comprehensive insurance and benefits package with flexible health spending component, and LAPP pension eligibility.Application: Please submit a cover letter and complete resume of experience and qualifications, quoting Competition TOS2022-36This competition will close at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 30th, 2022.The Town of Strathmore thanks all applicants; however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.We are an equal opportunity employer and encourage applications from all qualified individuals.
