Job Description


The Communications Officer is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of communication programs in support of WCB initiatives. The Communications Officer provides public relations counsel and support to the organization\'s leadership and maintains understanding, acceptance and cooperation between the Board and its stakeholders.

Job Duties:

Develops, executes and evaluates communications and public relations strategies in support of WCB goals and initiatives.

Researches, writes and edits publications, news releases, articles, letters and speeches, including material provided to the Minister\'s office and/or other government bodies.

Oversees and edits the work of other contributors to internal and external publications and other written projects.

Manages and coordinates all layout and design of WCB literature and graphic displays created by external vendors.

Provides communication counselling/advice and support to other WCB departments, committees and specific external stakeholders.

Performs specific layout and design internally (publications, presentations, signs, documents).

Organizes and co-ordinates special events including open houses, trade shows, seminars and workshops; manages and coordinates WCB staff in trade shows and speaking engagements.

Manages, edits and coordinates the official WCB web site.

Makes presentations to internal and external audiences/stakeholders.

Acts as a liaison to stakeholders, internal staff and the media to ensure accurate exchange of information.

Responsible for maintenance and integrity of WCB graphic standards and styles.

Responsible for WCB photography.

Establishes and maintains contacts within the print, design, advertising and Internet industries to ensure quality/cost effectiveness.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Completion of a post-secondary diploma in Creative Communications, with specific training in public relations, advertising and journalism

Minimum three years\' experience in a journalism and/or public relations environment

Demonstrated ability to use a personal computer and software in a Windows environment including working knowledge of the Internet

Well-developed desktop publishing and photography skill.

Superior oral and written communication skills including business writing, journalism, newspaper or magazine writing, advertising copy writing, technical writing, press release/press kit writing, plain language writing and speech writing

Ability to understand and explain complex information and concepts

Excellent layout and design skills

Demonstrated ability to communicate fluently in French and English, both verbally and in writing, is required for Designated Bilingual positions only

Additional Information:

Ability to communicate proficiently in both official languages (English & French) is an asset.

A satisfactory criminal record check and verification of education will be required for the successful candidate.
