University of Toronto Casual Position Opportunity in Communications and Multimedia The Dunlap Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics is currently accepting applications for a casual position to provide communications support to promote and publicize the research, technology, training, and outreach programs of the Dunlap Institute. The Dunlap Institute, DADDAA and CITA together host more than 150 staff and students in astronomy, who conduct a diverse research program across instrumentation, observation, computation and theory. The Dunlap Institute is located on a beautiful 19th century campus in the heart of one of the world\xe2\x80\x99s great cities. Duties include:

  • coordinating the development of the new Institute websites
  • designing and developing all communications materials
  • developing new content for websites and online communications;
  • reviewing final content and website maintenance;
  • implementing media communications through social networking sites to enhance national and international outreach;
  • copywriting and final copy editing for the institute\'s publications, media releases, advisories, and news feeds;
  • producing digital photography, videos and animations;
  • developing layouts for promotional materials;
Essential Qualifications:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, or journalism, or an acceptable combination of education and relevant experience
  • Minimum four (4) years of recent and related experience in developing wide-range of promotional and multimedia communication materials.
  • Experience updating and maintaining content for websites using content management systems.
  • Experience in developing and coordinating communications activities.
  • Experience with online communications and social media; science writing or journalism.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to write in a variety of styles for a variety of audiences.
  • Highly developed organizational and relationship management skills; meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent copywriting, proofreading, and editing skills.
  • Excellent word processing skills; knowledge of desktop publishing and content management software.
Assets (Nonessential):
  • Experience with communications at a university and knowledge of astronomy.
  • Experience in planning/advertising/marketing of public events; coordinating logistics with suppliers and internal clients.
  • Intermediate skills in graphic design, layout, and print production (e.g. Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign).
Starting Date: As soon as possible
Hours of Work: 18.75 \xe2\x80\x93 37.5 hours per week
Schedule: Monday to Friday
Duration: 3 months
Work Location: St. George Campus, Toronto, ON (This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.)
